I had the windshield replaced on our e60 a month ago. Safelite did it and did an excellent job. I had a new lower tray from FCP because mine was original and cracked. Technician happily installed the new part over the old. He also showed up with the correct upper trim piece, although I had one of those on hand, too. The only negative is I had to go with OE glass, because the third-party manufactured piece was a bit off center with the auto wiper trigger.

In an attempt to avoid getting a windshield crack, putting my car out of service, I grabbed a $15 Permatex windshield repair kit from NAPA. Honestly, I am amazed at how well this DIY epoxy kit repaired the rock chip. I may be waiting to get a windshield until my next chip.
