Hey guys/girls, just thought I'd throw this question out there to see if anyone had any input. I'm having trouble justifying the price premium of the OEM BMW Perf intake over the Injen intake when the gains are reported to be substantially different in favor of the Injen intake. Any thoughts as to which intake is a better value/option?? Any help would appreciated!

Unless something has changed, didn't the Injen dyno charts for the 328/330 indicate a loss of power below 3000rpm?

Injen is a totally open element and will loose HP once your car gets hot. You'll be sucking in all the hot air from under the hood. Cold, Injen may do better. Injen sounds better if you like intake noise. I would not get anything that isn't shrouded from the engine compartment.
I went with the Dinan. The intake is very similar to the new M3 in that it pulls air from the stock area along with an extra inlet at the bottom. I have the throttle body too. Once I drove my car over 100 miles, my ECU adjusted to the extra air and now can feel the difference in power. You decide - sound or performance.

i have the injen now and if i was to choose again, i will still go with the injen in a heartbeat. the BMW perf intake for me is overrated with that high price. it may possibly be better than the injen for power but honestly how much difference is it going to make?

I got the AFE CAI and it works great. I know people say that CAIs get hot because of the engine heat but the AFE CAI stays cool even after an hour of driving at around 80mph. The AFE CAI is an open filter but it attaches to a casing that helps block off the heat. In my opinion is a better option than the Injen CAI.
Edit. AFE CAI also remains cool through low speed, around town driving. |

The performance increase on either is negligible in the large scheme of things - you won't feel it. Therefore go for which ever suits your pocketbook.
