Question for Scottish members ..
Where would you recommend for getting a full 4 wheel tracking done ? Preferably on the West Coast (Glasgowish).
By Pros who know what they are doing, not some spotty apprentice BMW muppet just dialling in numbers from a book. Would do it myself, but we only have the old optical guages - and really want to have the camber, castor, centre line checked - the full readout. Remember using a 4-wheel machine (used threads) while setting up the rear on my MK1 Capri so that the back axle was aligned with the centre line of the car, Locating it on the leafsprings using concentric washers. Onlookers thought I was mad. Worked though running on single leaf 2.8i springs with 2.8i roll bar.D.

Dave,
I got my old car done earlier in the year (330cd) at Dunedin in Edinburgh, although that dealership has now changed hands. Not got much experience of Glasgow dealerships, tho' I used Fairbairns on Fenwick Road a few times and they were fine. Can't really comment on the quality - I got a report showing before/after and adjustments made. It was £175ish. The service guys told me that there is no such thing as "tracking" on a BMW - "its a 4 wheel alignment rig sir and it can only be done at a dealership etc...." "175 quid??" says I. "Oh yes sir, 2 hours of labour etc etc .....". I blame the speed bumps....... |

Try it around here... they've now got signs up everywhere "Weather Damaged Road."
This morning on of the major A roads that has been down to 1 lane for a week as half of it is about 4 feet too low had to be closed when the rest of it slid down the bank.

anyone see the cutting edge program or tonight with good old trevor a while back.
it is an absolute disgrace, the conditions of our roads are very bad. some taxi drivers in leeds developed bad backs due to constant vibrations from the roads, the only way to get the council to listen was to sue them, as working conditions were in fact illegal (certain tolerance for vibrations at work) all these bloody utility companys digging up the roads after councils have just laid new tarmac, they do not work together and put the road back together so badly it often needs re-doing. I believe devon council is the only one that inspects and fines the companies for this, but they are allowed to recharge the customer! so fines are passed on. billions are sucked from the motorists (something like 20 billion) and less than 1% goes back on roads. they had to rename road tax to VED as its wasnt spend on the roads. i've had to get my alloys repaired twice (only had car for 6 weeks) due to pot holes - (sorry deep sea trenches) one was so bad it turned the cars wheel violently. so i parked up and when to get a picture of it, (filled with water too) and some C^&* tries to give me a parking ticket! when i drive its tiring as i have to keep a constant watch for manhole covers and trenches a road in particular next to me (twickenham) has been in a sorry shitty state now for over 10 years, you can imagine the relief when i seen roadsigns stating no parking etc... it was to be resurfaced!! yes at last... it was having repairs almost weekly. i cannot explain to you how bad it is..... its like a bog road in eire. anyhow to my horror i noticed square spray marks, yes, low and behold, blomming speed bumps were being installed! not the road being resurfaced! you cannot go over 15mph anyway! we give a shit load of cash to the EU, it frustrates me to drive in eire and spain etc and see "funding by eu" -ie you and I !!!! |
