How rare is something like this?

Hello!! I’m new to BimmerPost so I have to make a couple of post. I bought a 2008 328XI SportsWagen yesterday and I was wondering how rare is something like that here in the US? It is Titan Silver on the outside and Dakota Leather with Burr Walnut on the inside. I can get into the options if needed.

E91s are great cars, with sport package being highly sought after and heated seats being a great option (a requirement for me). Aluminum trim is a bonus to some people, and having single hump vs. an iDrive can be a deal breaker for others.
Automatics without sport or heat are pretty basic.
The manual transmission ones are the truly rare ones.

StradaRedlands Good to know. I do wish I had heated seats and sport package but something I like is no IDrive. It looks better with out in my opinion. Also wagons are rarer in general right? Especially the states. I’ve never seen one here before.

mainbearing Yup!! It’s great condition and I got it yesterday. It has your typical wheel wear and one small ding above the back wheel well. And some typical scratches in the interior. But overall amazing car with only 48k on my odometer.

Keep it stock, it will be worth more if it remains un-modded.

If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."

I was going to say that it seems like a pretty basic-optioned car and so not particularly rare, no more so than it being a wagon...which is a bit "rare". Although as the E9X series cars age, it's the wagons that seem to be emerging as the keepers. Lots on here.

What your car has going most for it is the low mileage. My 2008 E91 (RWD, manual, sports package, no iDrive, aluminum trim...and of course, heated seats ) has 200K more than yours; and so is probably worth maybe about half of yours. Enjoy those next 200K miles.

jsunma I’m glad to hear it! I was curious on how rare one could be but I’m not looking to be the rarest on the street. Also I’m glad yours is such high mileage because it gives me confidence mine will make it as high as yours!

Also I’m not sure if the other packages count on making it rarer… if you’d like me to list them though just let me know

oVeRdOsE. I have a pretty decent list of options I’d say. So I’m not entirely naked. Maybe on the outside yes haha.

Welp, I now know yours is 12 days older than mine. I'd say that they were shipmates, but for the fact that mine was European Delivery.

You can run the VIN through Mdecoder.com and see all the options it has.

Yes, E91s in the US are rare, however, a lot of them came with xDrive, a lot of E91s here came automatic, a lot of the manual cars are xDrive. In my opinion, RWD E91s are much rarer, even more so if it’s a manual.

Then there’s the unicorns… Manual M-Sport E91s. I’m thankful to have a M-Sport E91 here in the US, and I don’t mind that mine is auto. It serves well as the current daily.

From 2006 through 2008 or 2009 the E91 only came in xDrive. You could get it with either transmission. When I ordered my '06 I wanted to get a sport package RWD E91, but BMW didn't offer it in that configuration until 2009 or 2010 as I remember it. I guess BMW thought female New Englanders were the only market for the station wagon and xDrive would be the preferred driveline for the majority of the market.

That's not completely correct. You could get a RWD E91 from 2007 model year onward, at least here in the US. I recently sold our beater 2007 E91 RWD I had for 10 years.

As to rarity, a truly optioned out nicely E91 is extremely rare whereas almost all of them were dealer spec ordered cars that typically came with Premium pkg as perhaps the only option. The car above is very lightly optioned (i.e. no comfort access, no xenon lights, no sport package) and typical of dealer spec ordered cars.
