BMW E90 320d Oil under the intercooler
Hi everyone,
Last year I bought a 2006 BMW E90 320d. I had an issue with oil leaking from the pipe after the intercooler. I replaced both the upper and lower intercooler rubber hoses, the crankcase breather filter, and the O-rings on both sides of the intercooler connections. That seemed to fix the problem. However, I recently noticed that oil is now leaking on the turbo side, somewhere before the intercooler or possibly from the intercooler itself. The oil level hasn't dropped drastically — I’ve driven about 6000 km and the oil is still just slightly below the maximum mark. Could the intercooler be cracked or faulty? Has anyone experienced something similar? Thanks in advance for your help! |

I have the same engine (lower power). There is always some oil inside the pipes, but it definitely should not leak out. The spill on the undertray seems excessive. I don't have anything like that. In your first two pics it is supposedly the charge pipe that goes to the manifold form the intercooler. Is it stock? There should not be metal pipe (or is it plastic?). It seems to be leaking from the top, where it connects to the throttle valve/egr valve. There is a rubber seal there inside the plastic pipe. Try to use oem seals, aftermarket seals in my experience are no good, they did not even fit. It could be spraying from a crack in the intercooler, definitely. So maybe check intercooler for cracks - dismount, and blow some compressed air inside.
