How to drain gas

Newbee here...

I'm suspecting and want to make sure that the gas in the tank is causing problems, plus it's old as the car hasn't run in a while.

remove fuel pump fuse
run car till it stalls
remove fuel filter and drain from there?

Might be easier to remove the pump and filter with the saddle bag style tank and you will have the back seat out anyway. You wouldn't have to remove them, just lift them both enough to siphon the gas out of each side.
