E90 Comfort Access Retrofit

One of my 335d's we bought came with a CA (comfort access) key (5WK49186) the 335i I have carefully extracted the full CA system out of has an OE key with 5WK49147 marked on it.

From what I can find, these are both CA capable keys, why the locksmith that made the fob for the non CA 335d using a CA key, no idea.

Questions:

1. Is this a actually a compatible CA key? (All this hangs on avoiding the cost of buying a CA key from (st)ealer or other locksmith)

2. Worth hanging onto the CAS and key from the 335i car for any reason?

3. I was thinking about "soft installing" the CA kit, just leaving all 4 antenna, the handles and module connected in a pile on the pass seat to test the function after coding.

Has anyone tried something like that? I assume it would be completely reversible as from what I've read in retrofit threads, its just a matter of changing VO 322.

I also want to try and make handle "emulators" or leave these plugged in in the trunk somewhere, I dont want to deal with shorted handles and all that nonsense lol.

Yea yea I already hear you "iTs nOt wOrTh tHe eFfOrT." yes you are absolutely right. , but I have to retrofit rear PDC, and figure, why not do this since I literally pulled everything at the same time, and the key I have is already possibly CA capable.

Cheers.

there is no magic
the china (aliexpress) supplies the CA key case for the same price as a non-CA and it is easier to swap batteries in a such case in future.

Not sure what this means. If I was just wanting a replacement housing or key, then I could go that route, my question was is the key model I have that's already programmed to the CAS correct.

I haven't looked into adding new keys, but from the posts I've read in the retrofit thread, the CAS - Key is a very sensitive process and if done wrong, a whole new CAS is required.

the locksmith is sourced blank key from china
you cannot insist on anything additional until you disassemble key from locksmith and understand if key board with CA or no

Got it, this makes sense, you're right in that I will need to open it to see as I have no idea what the PO has done.

Just a bit terrified to mess with anything as that's the only key we have, hence my idea to soft install everything and test it that way.

If not, I have a very well packaged CA kit to sell to someone.

unless you have in CAS specified that this particular key is CA capable and THIS key is really CA capable you've got nothing

Good point, is there a way to check for this via ISTA / Protools?

I was going to do the CAS counter to see how many keys have been added, I thought the only thing that was necessary coding wise was ensuring that $322 is added to VO in addition to a CA capable key.

Do you have any insight into how to check for this within the CAS?

if you want to become CAS hacker, there is some information on other forums
if you want to fix this particular issue, just send your CAS and key to indepedent bmw electric to fix that
or like my friend in NJ did, he bought some model of Autel tool and fixed this.
He bought M5 with CA system but key wasn't working via CA, only as usual key
