Boston Marathon - support a runner strategy
My brother is running Boston this year. I want to know the best way to support him at 4 places along the route.
Ideally, the places are: start, finish and 2 points mid-course. I can imagine crowds and logistics are difficult. I have read that using the T train is recommended. I do want to avoid getting stuck before reaching walking distance to the finish line. Has anyone been a spectator at the Boston Marathon, supporting another runner? Thanks for any comments. |

Closing the loop on this.
We decided to support my brother at mile 26, then meet him at the family gathering location after the finish line. It worked well. We took the train from Worcester to Back Bay, easy ride into the city. Train was empty at the start of the line in Worcester and was standing room only from Framingham into the city. The biggest hassle of the day was finding an entrance point to the actual running course. Very poorly signed in my opinion. Lots of "no entry/no access/exit" signs and nearly no "enter the course here" signs. Yes, I used the marathon app which is useless for this specific issue. We cheered my brother, met him after the finish, photos and hugs, then took the train back to Worcester. Really quite trouble free, and requires advanced planning. |
