So, an update to things. The XF is in the proving grounds stage, and a few weekends ago some friends of mine and I took the cars to the mountains for a weekend of twisty roads. XF is pretty competent with a lot of points in it's favor, but I think it will inevitably just be sold as a little less fun car to drive than the e91.

The e91 in acknowledgement of the generation increasingly getting crusty, has found and is sporting a ok-ish set of what would have been the factory M Sport 17" set.

Somehow this makes sense to me in that as the arms raise for increased power and bold cheep styling continues the trend of a platform that is hitting the 20 year mark, going to smaller more base wheels is a deliberate choice to separate from the pack. Unfortunately, this current set isn't in the best shape, so I continue to search for the perfect 17" set for my girl Charlotte.

Seats and wheels, that's my fixation... Oh, and I also want the Euro airbox instead of the M Sport carbon box as I think it looks a bit gaudy.

P.S. On a side note, I did buy a set of performance catless headers, but haven't had time to think about installing them.

So, I have not stopped tinkering with the e91, but I did get another n52 powered car that I have been seeking out for a very long time.

2007, 6 speed, si, with now 63k miles on the clock. Initially I was trying to find a roadster to build a custom paint to sample car to replace my F-type, but this came up and I couldn't resist.

How do you like the sound generator in the Z4? The n52 howls!

Currently, it's terrible because when I bought the car it had an AFE intake installed and the sound generator unhooked. There is a terrible resonance in the car around the 3800-4200 rpm mark that's bad enough to rattle windows and some Z4 folks suggest it's the intake making something on the very unhappy.

I'm have a stock box to put in to experience as factory intended, but I haven't had time to install it yet.

As it is right now, 3500-4500, which is traditionally a magical rpm range for me, is a bad touch zone and that's unfortunate.

I'm taking the car into the shop this week to see if there is anything underneath that I'm missing.

318d Msport touring 2011

Sorry to crash this thread. Couldn’t create a new post for some reason.

I recently bought a 2011 318d msport touring, 140k miles and just had timing chain and full engine service done with full service history which gave me the confidence to go ahead.

I’m looking to get a stage one remap done but can’t decide if I should have the EGR and DPF deleted and gutted as well? Research and suggestions tell me to do the lot as it’s better for the car apparently. But having a stage one without the deletes is also a good option too.

I’ve gone over the pros and cons but ultimately if it’s better for the car and less likely to have clogging issues down the line then surely better to do the lot vs stage one by itself?

Looking for some sound advice please! 🙏🏼

Cheers,
M

I'm sorry, but you are crashing a thread. Here as in the United States we don't know anything about your engine. I've never seen it and don't know anything about it at all. I think I would have liked to have received it, but we didn't, and that's that.

I'd ignore him as he's new, perhaps he'll simply go away and not soil your thread.

Hi, you are overthinking it (I did this myself). Just enjoy your car, it pulls nicely, the LCI 318ds with the N47's got some hp already. You could consider stage 1. EGR delete is worth considering for the N47s, they tend to gunk up pretty bad, i.e. egr valve, manifold, intake ports. Actually, you should maybe start with walnut shell blasting of intake ports and cleaning of manifold/egr valve (professional service). 318ds have no swirl flaps. DPF - I wouldn't bother, unless it's gunked up and giving trouble. Check the condition of the damper pulley. Maybe it has the infamous fuel tank breather hose leak (fuel spills out when topping up). It should be trouble free.
