Possibility of internal damage?
Hi everyone,
Belt shredded on my n54, no crank seal damage, but I took the opportunity to garage it and clean up everything, my oil pan was already leaking so I thought may as well clean up and swap as many gaskets and seals while I’m down here. After I dropped the pan, I some pieces of belt and initially shit my pants. Clearly the belt was shredded previously and fixed the seal without dropping the pan and checking if anything made it past the crank. But after thinking about it, I never once had a low oil pressure code, and if my oil pan wasn’t leaking I wouldn’t have thought twice about the pickup tube being clogged. I’ve seen a few posts of some guys chasing a low pressure code until they finally dropped the pan and saw the tube was clogged up. I would say the pickup was about 50% restricted, I could visibly see a bunch of mesh. How likely could internal damage be due to the restriction? |

That's hard to guess. How long have you owned the car? I would say that if it hasn't blown up yet then you're probably in the clear, that combined with the fact you haven't had any low pressure issues.
Follow the line of thought out on this one. If we said that the odds were good there is internal damage, what would you do at this point - rebuild, sell? You may as well drive and enjoy the car and if in the future internal problems start to present, then you're at the same decision. But again, you haven't had any low pressure issues, so I suspect you're good. |
Appreciate
