About 25 years ago, I was scrambling looking for a car off the lot. Jeep agreed to buyback my Jeep from hell and I needed something quick. I don't remember if it was Acura or Lexus but I had some asshole salesguy refuse to speak with me. He handed my his business card and told me come back with my husband. A few days later, I called him and told him bad judgement call. I just bought a brand new BMW X5 4.4 all by myself! I wish I could have seen his face. Till this day, I wish I would have gone there instead of calling.

Carry on. Hijack over.

Exactly 25 years ago this month, I was in the paddock at the SCCA Nationals. A few months earlier, I received a very generous offer from someone to co-drive my car in the championship. She was a multi-time national champion in the ladies classes, and wanted to compete in the open classes against the men as a bigger challenge.

I didn't realize until I arrived at the event that this was a touchy subject with the men in my class. At least three times the day before our class competed, men came over to me talking to me like I was an idiot and explaining the "unspoken" co-driver rule. Whoever had the lower car number ran first on cold tires, and the higher car number driver ran second and had the benefits of the warm tires. If I believed those knuckle-dragging cavemen, no car owner in the history of motorsports ever ran with the lower number on cold tires! Thank you gentlemen, but I know the logic and what I'm doing by running with the lower number on cold tires. She could make a whole lot better use of the hot tires than I could, and I was just there for the driving experience and not to win.

Long story short, I really enjoyed watching her receive her trophy at the awards banquet after seeing the behind-the-scenes harassment that the men in the class subjected her to. It made me appreciate her accomplishments even more knowing how men were afraid of losing to her and actually plotting to keep her from getting any advantages against them.....

Invariably they are both disappointed .

This cracked me up. I now have one for a company car. It doesn’t drive bad. It’s better than the POS Highlander I had as a rental. Was shocked my Ford Edge and the Subaru drove better. The Forester is ugly as hell. Most people who drive them are horrible drivers and almost always 10 & 2. Would never spend money on one. Ever.
