Hello, I am looking to upgrade my 2016 F31 with the hifi radio system. As of now, I do not have navigation or carplay. I have been looking at this ebay listing for about a year now and am trying to figure out why I wouldn't buy it and obtain the results I am looking for - i.e. navigation, carplay, touchscreen. Can anyone let me know what I am missing?

Having just upgraded my BMW that included this option, I can say with confidence that you'll be kicking yourself for not making the plunge sooner! I was a doubter with carplay, now I can't imagine not having the integration with my iPhone!

I kinda cheated! I traded in my 2014 328ix for a very well appointed 2017 430ix. This was on my list of upgrades that I didn't have a chance to do to my older car, but the timing chain/water pump thought otherwise, and my mechanic strongly urged me to trade it in quickly while I could get get a bit of value out of a car that has served me well.

A new head unit with all the parts is the way to go, but it needs to tailored to your specific VIN. I would advise you contact Steve codemybimmer.ca and ask him to give you a quote geared for your vehicle. Once you know what to buy, you can search eBay for the parts and have Steve code it.

Another vote for do it.

Did the id4 to id6 retrofit and the vendor coded it for country etc. with a retrofit it all just works. No unexpected reboots and seemless operation.

Also Bluetooth calling has better audio quality if you have iPhone and use CarPlay calling setting.

Although have touch screen , but don’t use it. Kinda oldschool about keeping fingerprints of the screen.
