Windscreen washers not working

Last night I noticed my windscreen washer jets are not working at all. It's not like they are blocked or low on fluid as when I pull the stock back I'm getting absolutely nothing, no noise of the motor and the wipers also don't move. I have checked the fuses and they all seem to be fine.

After a quick google search it seems there is a common problem with washer fluid getting gunked up and blocking the jets but from what I have seen and read when this is the case the pump can still be heard but just no water comes through. I doubt mines would be blocked up anyway as I only use just straight water, never any soaps or cleaners etc.

Any ideas ?

Just had this issue, it will be either gunk in the filters or pump dead. Likely to be pump dead I would think. Tedious to get to but easy. I paid £7.80 for new pump.

You can test your pump with a 9v or 12v battery.

yeah sounds like the pump at least its not expensive.

Just thinking to myself at least the mot is not due until August so don't need to worry about it for a while then realised August is 1 week away !

Yeah looks a bit of a fiddly job the part I no thats going to be the problem for me is I know from when I changed one of the headlights all of the bolts in the wheel well are corroded and won't come out

Out in the car tonight and now it's working fine ! Already bought a new pump which is on the way, oh well I suppose it good to have a spare if it starts to play up again. I'm just glad I don't have to fit it looks like a bit of a pig to get to !

It's most likely gunk causing the issue.
I had this a couple of years ago, I disconnected the feed to the screen jets pumped most of the water out of the reservoir put some plug hole unblocker in there & left for a couple of hours.
This dissolved all the shit in the tank I then pumped it out into a container & flushed through a few times. Has worked fine since.

If your taking it a part to fit the new pump, poor some hot water through the system. This should break down some of the deal in the tank

When yours went bad though could you still hear the motor running and did the wipers sweep ? I was just getting absolutely nothing when pulling the stock back which made me think it was the motor

There was no motor noise & I don't remember whether or not the wipers swept.
There's a little filter in the bottom of the washer tank that gets clogged

If your wipers stop as well then I would say your pump is dying. You can change it in half hour and without removing the whole washer system.

New pump should be here tomorrow so if it starts playing up again I can just swap it over, hopefully not though as I said can't be arsed ! I will need to see where i can source some replacement bolts for inside the wheel well as I know from changing the headlights a while ago they are rotten and won't come out

Will be booking it's MOT this week whilst all is well !

New washer pump arrived today whilst the car was in for its MOT, old pump still works a treat shame it failed on ineffective handbrake
