So I just got done replacing my valve cover gasket, eccentric shaft sensor, water pump, differential fluid (front and rear), manual transmission fluid and transfer case fluid in my 2010 328i xdrive (n52). Did all the adaptations (transfer case as well as valvetronic motor) and everything is good except for this 55C3 code (VTG; awd limp-home control activated. No dsc specified nominal torque). I also had a steering angle code 6E64 (dsc steering angle sensor adjustment) however I cleared that code and it did not come back. Cleared the 55C3 code and it did come back. No other codes present.

All of the scanning was done with a foxwell nt510 elite. I just got done putting the rest of the engine bay together after running the car and checking for oil leaks so I have yet to actually drive the car. Any ideas?

Just reading this post and I had the same codes after servicing transmission and transfer case. I cleared them out but have not driven the car yet. My thought is that they are related to disconnecting the battery and turning the output shafts on the transfer case by hand. I did do a fluid wear reset on the transfer case. When I finish all the services I am doing I will test drive and see if any codes come up.

It's probably all oK. The DSC is angry because you've been spinning wheels with the car off the ground.

Drop it down and take it for a spin. Should be fine.

Mine kept coming back even after I cleared it and driving maybe 30 miles. The thing that fixed it was finding my steering sensor angle code and doing a reset/recalibration.

Once I did that the 4x4 code has not returned.

The steering angle sensor lost calibration. What worked for me was this. Disconnected battery and left over night..probably overkill. reconnected it and powered on car, did not start engine. with wheels off ground I slowly turned steering to the left lock and the slowly turned to the right lock and then back to center. This calibrated the SAS and 4x4 went off and so did the limp home dsc warning.

Yup! All I had to do was run the calibration function on my scan tool and all is well. Thanks!

So I'm having these same codes mius the steering wheel angel sensor, my whole dash lights up right around 85 mph crusing on the highway it happens everyday on the way to work. Has anybody found a solution to this problem? I tried turning the wheel all the way to the left then all the way to the right and back to center without any changes unforchantly. I used ProTools to scan the codes. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I can only assume bad steering wheel angle sensor or bad wheel speed sensor or something along those lines.

Your issues are not the same. You have a bad sensor and it should show up in Protool

I realize this post is a few years old, but I'm hoping you'll see it. I have the exact same problem as you. I cleared the steering angle code but the 55C3 code remains. How did you do the reset/calibration of the steering angle sensor. I have the same Foxwell scan tool as you, and I'm just trying to figure how to get to that function. Thanks in advance.

Schucks. I really don’t remember at this point. You may have to just go into every option but I’m assuming it would be under “chasis” or somewhere along those lines. It’s definitely there though. Sorry I can’t be of more help.
