Battery Tender Quick Disconnect Install with Ring Terminals?
I am going to buy a Battery Tender (800mA weather resistant) for my 2010 E93. I want to install the quick connect using the ring terminals and not use the alligator clips but unsure how to screw it to the positive post under the hood. Was thinking of drilling a hole through the post, but is there a better way? I am assuming I can install the negative behind the post under the hood. It is 10 F degrees so haven't so haven't looked closely yet. I'd like to connect/disconnect through the grill so I can leave the hood closed. I don't have a garage, but keep the car covered. Thanks!

I added Defa winter heating kit (cabin heater + oil warmer + battery charger).
This also means there is sort of quick connector in front of the car. Since it is recommended to charge battery via these posts (so the IBS- intelligent battery system can monitor and measure the added charge) I routed wire and used round terminal to connect to the + pole under the bonnet. ![]() Remove the bolt, insert the terminal and now you can have the plug in front of the car. Only one bolt is the correct one (one bolts holds the plastic piece in place and the other one transfers it to the generator). Also add a fuse 10A (between the connection and the + terminal) so the car won't burn down in case there is a short (wire gets damaged or some water). ![]() Any smaller framework bolt around the engine can be used as negative. It helps if you have multimeter to verify connections. Last edited by Captain Buumer; 12-26-2024 at 04:05 PM.. |

I have the quick disconnect bolted to the battery terminal connectors in the trunk of both of my e92s. Nothing to it, but not under hood as you asked.

+1 on easy to mount right at the battery terminals.
I also drilled a small hole in the side battery compartment cover so that the Tender quick connect plug could protrude at the bottom into the open trunk space to make for an easy quick connect without having to remove the side panel every time

BMW explicitly warns against charging the battery in the trunk and to use the charge points in the engine bay to prevent damage to the IBS

Turned out to be pretty simple and neat. I used Capitan Buumer and Nightman's suggestions. Took me 10 minutes. The tail for the SAE plug is wire tied by the washer fluid fill. Thanks everyone.
