for anyone struggling to get that front xdrive ball joint out, here is an easy way.

he used a piece he made himself on a lathe, but i effectively did the same thing with a series of simple flat washers of diminshing size, a simple socket as a brace just as he did, and a breaker bar. no air hammer, slide hammer, chisel or punch and sledge needed.

I'm surprised he didn't just pull the shank out of the socket doing that. I did the balljoints on my E83 X3 with the same suspension design, I ended up having to take the whole knuckle off and brought it to a friends house with a hydraulic press to push them out from the top.
