Do I need a valve job?
I just bought a 2009 328i. The previous owner said it needed a valve job and sold it to me very cheap.
I figured on a compression test, but when I pulled the spark plugs, they looked fine. I looked in the oil fill area, looks ok, no discoloring. Tailpipe seems OK. I've not seen it smoke at all, but it's not on the road and not running now for having no plugs. When I picked it up from the guy, he drove it the half block to my house saying it did not smoke this time when he started. It's been sitting in his drive for months. I'm wondering if it might be a gas problem; water in the gas? That has now floated to the top and not causing problems? I'm about to drain the tank and re-fill with new gas. I'm also planning new plugs and an oil change (wish there was a dipstick). Any comments/suggestions? BTW, I disconnected the battery, put the parts in the trunk, shut the trunk lid and .... Not sure if I read here or elsewhere to connect juice to the battery connections in front? After trying the back parts to reach in with a coat hanger and attempting to figure out how to remove the back seats. Well, the electrical way popped open the trunk. |
