Preowned OEM vs Aftermarket
I’m soon expecting delivery of a 2011 328i with style 284 17” wheels and worn tires dated 2018. So new tires are in my near future, also a good time to upgrade wheels.
I generally like OEM wheels on upper trim level cars. I was looking forward some 193M wheels, but the few I’m seeing are $1K and even saying one of the 4 are bent. I also realize these wheels are older and getting harder to find a set in good condition. So what should i expect to pay for a nice set of 193M? Saving much over a new aftermarket wheels such as Apex Flowformed? |

If it were me, I'd go for some Apex wheels. The OEM wheels will be cast and heavier. If you're going to spend that much on wheels, might as well get some performance benefit out of it.

193M are really overrated and IMO don't suit the E9x well. 189/287 look WAY better at least to me. That being said, the 284s don't look half bad. IMO I'd either stick with what it's got and just do fresh rubber or get new aftermarket like Apex or VMR. If you're on a budget, ECS has their Alzor line which are insanely reasonably priced.

Then 193 look more modern than the E90 it selft, I would have seen those wheels on F series, which I liked. But overall, like the 225 , the spokes extend to the rim edge, so the 193 dont ''feel'' like a 18'', looks bigger. odd to explain, but that was got me into this set. Also staggered was a big plus for me. Finally, I have a full m package, which I want to retain. |

I appreciate all of the input.
I happened across a sale on Bridgestone RE980’s, a set delivered with tax for under $400. Installed will push me a little over $500. I pulled the trigger. I was having a hard time putting $2500 into tire/wheel combo in a $10K car. At least one I haven’t driven yet. If the car is everything I hope it to be then I likely will go the Apex route next time. |
