2011 328xi n51 transmission issue

Recently bought a 328xi with a known transmission issue it has the GM 6l45 not the zf, figured I'd take it to the dealer and sulev myself a transmission, turns out PO put a used one in it at one point so warranty is void (YAY for clueless people). That being said i had the very common codes of 56bb and 56bf (clutch natural test codes) and eventually a reverse something or other code i forget. No forward or reverse movement, figure easy, manual valve broke right? Took pan off, manual valve seemed fine, i ordered a used known working valve body just in case, you know check balls shrinkage and all that, replaced the machatronics since manual valve was indeed intact and filled the fluid (about 6 liters even though only like 3 came out which was also a red flag) well, exact same behavior as before, no forward or reverse, if I put it in drive or reverse with car off the ground and give it gas, engine starts surging 500-1500 rpm quickly then I get transmission errors i mentioned above before the engine starts acting normally. At this point do i just throw a transmission at it? Could it just be torque converter being bad? Did I fuck something up when putting it back together that I didnt think of? (I did just reuse the old sealing sleeves but would that cause it to have 0 movement, especially with the wheels off the ground?)

Also took apart the old valve body and confirmed check balls were all still in the right spots, none had gone through the gasket to the other side, so I'm thinking transmission internal failure with the clutches or something else.... anyone got any ideas of what to bang my head on next?

It's easier to just replace it with a known good one. The GM transmission is available. If it was run on low fluid it could have clutch wear and debris throughout unit

Yeah that might be the go to... was hoping didn't have to since I don't really have the time lol... was just trying to see if anyone else had the same issue where a valve body didn't make a difference.
