This audio setup doesn't smell right...

Well, just acquired a 2011 E90 sedan with the "Navigation System Professional" but noticed some anomalies based on everything I've been reading / seeing; my car definitely has the navigation system, but also has the "base" (4 speakers, 2 subs) setup and no amp in the trunk.

If this normal? I though the Navi/IDrive was supposed to come with at least the Hi-Fi system?

Anyways, reason for questioning this is I noticed I have no sound coming from my front door speakers and the sound that should be coming from them seem to be coming from the under seat subs... yeah, weird. Obviously, sans any treble, just bass and mids.

Any ideas on what I can begin checking to make sure the sounds at least come from where they should?

In 2010 to 2011.5 there was no Hi Fi in the United States. Normaly World Wide the Base system is standard.
If you bought this thing used the last guy could have messed with the system .
We saw one system come through here where the speakers were absent.

Turn the bass all the way down and move the fader to the speaker you want to check would be what you could do
without taking anything apart while turning the treble all the way up for the doors .

Base system should open in attached images the first one is the base system upgrade guide. Take another look .
E90upgrade guide is the same file as base system upgrade.

The following are the same files.

Alright, I started tearing things apart on the right from and found something very weird: the connector to the sub has 4 wires going to it - the two sub wires (red/blue & brown/white) and the ones that match the right front speaker wires (blue/black & blue/brown). I tested and confirmed that the speaker wires from the door are going to the sub connector... why?? I also noticed that the speaker itself has 2 harness connecting posts but there is only one connector wire from the door; is this normal?

Also, the sub has definitely been removed before and meddled with; one of the screws wasn't fully tightened, mismatching screws, etc.

Solved the stupid thing!!! Instead of ordering one of these from Ebay, which would take 3 weeks do deliver, i just did my own wiring under the seat to have the + and - signals also feed the door speakers.

Pain in the ass but a learning experience nonetheless.

So you wired your underseats in parallel with the doors . Which is what you should be trying to avoid with a Base System retrofit? And you didn't say what you where trying to wire up .But that is how the stock base system is wired up.

I was just trying to understand why the front door speakers weren't working - I hadn't done anything to the car since purchasing it, but someone must've. The speakers and subs look to be some "premium" version, as all surrounds were rubber and not foam, and the speaker cones were some hard material and not cheapo paper ones.

If the stock base system is supposed to be wired up in parallel, I wonder why there was a connector missing to feed the front speakers.

If they had and amp in the trunk in order to run the floors and the doors of separate channels they would have had to run the Front Left and Right signal to the Trunk with and extension of the Head Unit Front and Right wires for Inputs to the Amp then run a wire for each under seat and wire back to each Door from the amp area.

You might want to look in the Trunk behind the Rear Wheel well or under the Trunk Floor for these three lines or evidence of past modifications.

In entry 4 the Alpine Kit pdf discusses the connection between Doors and Floor and how they have varied by Year.

I actually had the entire trunk apart when I was doing the rear shocks and saw zero signs of additional wiring, previously installed amps, or anything of the sort... which makes this even more baffling (pun intended).

In any case, the car is for my kid and she won't need (or appreciate, for that matter) anything Hi-Fi in the car, so I'll leave it as-is.

Thanks a ton for the pointers and help - much appreciated!
