Fix Transfer Case Causing Shudder on Acceleration

Hi all,

My 2007 328xi has been experiencing a significant shudder/hesitation/slip when accelerating, more prominent in lower gears and on harder acceleration. I traced the problem to the transfer case as disconnecting the VTG connection made the shudder go away.

I now am wondering how I should proceed in fixing the transfer case: would changing the fluid resolve this problem? Do I need to replace the motor? Anyone have any thoughts?
