///M Diff oil packaging changes
I had bought some diff fluid in the past that was in a grey bottle with a green cap that had the FM, and was on ECS and noticed it now comes with a clear bottle and red cap.
Is this a new formula or is it a case of BMW switching to shell, and its a shell fluid? old new https://www.ecstuning.com/ES197413/?...FYRjvAodwrYEFg |

Same fluid as before, but others have posted this too -- it's just a packaging change. It's Castrol Syntrax LS 75w140 with additional friction modifier, formerly known as Castrol SAF-XJ.
They might move to a Shell/Pennzoil product eventually, but I suspect there is relatively low demand for this fluid on a regular basis. It's not like motor oil that's getting used by the gallon every day in dealerships.

How many miles are on your car/what intervals should you change your diff fluid?

FWIW my local BMW dealer in Australia said we still have the grey bottles, as you said not a high demand product in the grand scheme of things |

I retrofitted a ///M diff to my 335i, and my mechanic said because the diff was sitting for quite some time I would be best to flush the new fluid out after 1000 kays, as at times there can be corrosion on the internals as my diff had sat unused for a few years before I installed it (any corrosion will contaminate the fluid and potentially cause damage to the diff) |
