How to prevent wheel spin on M4

Hey guys, the relatively new driver here. I'm 18 and I got the wonderful privilege to get my hands on an M4 which is coming in a week or two (now before you go for my throat here, I am responsible and won't do any stupid shit on a public road). Now how can I prevent wheel spin as much as possible on this RWD monster? I live in a suburb by Dallas so winter and snow aren't really an issue and the roads aren't too bad. Your input would be very much appreciated!

Don't got WOT and you'll be okay. If it's a manual short shift at 3k RPMS. I have no problem controlling wheel spin with my right foot.

Don't floor the car in first or second gear.

Have extreme performance summer tires.. i.e. cup 2's, potenza's, etc.

Roll into the throttle, don't mash it or stomp.

Honestly it's a very easy car to drive, especially in efficient throttle. Just don't stab the gas and you won't spin, and even if you do that TC is pretty effective (or intrusive some would say). The key is just having good throttle modulation with your foot.

Traction control is your friend, don’t turn that shit off!

Ask me how I know? I turned off TC to finish off my rear tires on my C7Z06 Vette on the way to have new tires installed. I got some serious wheel spin and damn near crashed it in a slide. I found out I can drive on a track, drifting probably not.

Get the GTS differential flash and if you're DCT get the GTS trans flash. It'll make the car lay down the power like it should and not like a mustang. Unless you are really pushing it, then it'll be more than willing to break free.

I never fully turn off traction control on the streets. Car is mainly in MDM mode unless I’m on a track. Allows for some wheel spin but like everyone else said smooth inputs in steering and gas especially when correcting. This goes with all vehicles, not just this car. Three simple words…
"Just go easy."

As you know, these cars are monsters…and cop magnets, so always go easy and "obviously respectful" on public roads. Your driving record will appreciate it.

On the other hand, whenever you are not on a public road and have a good safe opportunity, turn DSC completely off and learn the limits of the car. This teaches your brain the feeling BEFORE things get sideways.

If you smash the accelerator, you just might smash your ride too. It's all in the right foot.

And always drive manually in sequential mode. You will have much more control over the car.

I don't know how good you are of a driver. But those F8x M cars are pretty easy to drive as long as you keep all the nannies on!!

Leave traction control on and be smooth with the gas. It's not undrivable where if you slightly tap the gas it sends you to the moon lol.

Have good tires, make sure they are warm before you drive aggressively, be easy on the throttle, start in 2nd, drive in comfort mode.

Comfort mode - you can still lose traction in comfort mode, max accelerator engagement is the same in all modes, it's just a bit more progressive which makes it harder to accidentally light up the rears.

Don't slam on your gas peddle until you have a far better idea of what to expect from the car. Leave all your nannies on until you know what to expect. The F8x throws full torque (all 400+ lbs of it) at you before 3k RPM, that is how most unskilled drivers crash.

Slowly work your way up into Sport and then Sport+. Learn how to throttle properly, don't lead foot it because that is where most of the Mustang crash videos comes from.

If tc isn't fully off the Rwd is very safe unless your tires are not good for the conditions you're driving in (temps snow etc)

Was going to say..

Lift off oversteer is the real animal in the room. I lost it myself and ended up in a wall with lift off oversteer.

It's a brutal beast, and it's very very hard to catch even by seasoned veterans.

I would urge OP to be very very careful, i learned my lesson.

Traction control does an amazing job of keeping this thing on the road.. that and tires. Just upgraded from pss to 4s, and it’s like driving a different car!
