100% replacement.

For 2011+ models, I would recommend just removing the outer spring.

Then getting a UCP.

Just removed this last weekend on my '08.. HOLY S***... Night and day difference. Clutch feel and feedback makes the car so much more enjoyable and smooth to drive. It's no longer a mystery where the clutch will begin to bite on each shift. The clips were a pain to remove, as I didn't have a dental pick. I ended up using a tiny shorty flathead screwdriver to pry them off. Still managed to do it in less than 30 minutes though! 10/10 DIY mod.

So far, so good with removal. Finally able to shift smoothly 1st to 2nd. Only thing i'm not thrilled with is the lateral movement of the pedal. Has anyone done anything to remedy this?

Just did this today - huge difference!

As a tall, gangly dude, it was a pain in the arse trying to get to the clips and pins, and probably took me longer than it should have haha. Totally worth it in the end though!

Just removed this on my car, night and day difference - tool tip, one can bend a small screwdriver to serve as a dental pick in a haste

I removed this from my 08 M3 about 6 weeks ago.. I wanted to drive the car for at least a month before I formulated my opinion, and I must say, DO IT!

Seriously, I removed the spring and installed a clutch stop from eBay and it feels like a proper sports car now. The clutch pedal throw is short, it grabs quickly, it is consistent and doesn't feel "springy" anymore. There is some movement in the clutch pedal itself, while it is all the way up (not depressed), you can move the clutch pedal about half an inch left or right. This could definitely be annoying for some, but it has not been an issue for me.

Overall this is a nice touch, and I am a fan. If you have any reserves, just do it, you can always put the spring back in..

5 month update: I added bronze AKG clutch pedal bushings and it fixed all of the movement I had previously described. The bushings are $15, I highly recommend them.

So I read the whole thread and there seems to be plenty of pre 09 cars doing this and loving it, and seems there isn't much of a consensus for post 09 cars, I feel the response seems to be about 50/50 for removing the spring. Regardless, i'm going to do this mod over this rainy weekend and see how it goes, I've always thought the clutch needs more feel and is inconsistent in depression force and engagement feedback.
I will report back if I'm not wrapped around a tree...

Just removed springs and installed AKG clutch bushings. Removal of spring definitely improved 1st to 2nd gear change. It's more smooth. SKG bushings also reduced a lot of lateral movement, but installation was super AIPA as it was nearly impossible to reach bolts, nuts, and clips for removal with tools and hands. Someone in this thread recommended installing SKG bushings but one thing you have to know ahead of time is that end clip that's holding the clutch pedal wouldn't go back in unless bushings were grinded. I had to grind about 0.4mm (total 0.8mm) on both sides of bushings in order for the end clip to slide in to lock. Eventhough this job took me a few hours, I'm happy with spring removal and bushing replacement.

A fait ce mod aujourd'hui et comme tout le monde dit que vous pouvez sentir le point d'engagement beaucoup mieux. L'embrayage ne semble pas plus difficile, si quelque chose me paraît plus doux.

Je vais essayer les bagues AKG comme le prochain mod
