Parking sensors front and back

I was wondering, has anyone had parking sensors added to his car after taking delivery?

I don't have them on my M3 and find them very useful on our DD.

Can they be added as a modification?

Does anyone know?

Search "TLP" here on the forum... He retrofitted front Euro PDC sensors on his new 2011 recently.

Also search Alekshop. He seems to be a wizard at these types of things.

PS. Hate to make contact with the concrete stops in some of the parking lots My next M3 will surely have this option from the start.

I was thinking of having this retrofit. Spoke to someone with front PDC, and he said that it was useless for detecting those concrete stops - the sensors are too high.

Now I'm thinking of going with the front/rear camera mod instead.

sounds like a good idea, only I don't have the iDrive guess I hve to be on my toes ...

Very welcome. He told me that he discovered this when he heard the dreaded loud scraping noise. Let us both learn from his expensive lesson! Lol

Alekshop has a great camera kit that I'm considering. It can be self installed or you can bring it to your local stereo installer to do it. I'll probably see if he can drop by next time he's in socal after I get my car.

Still trying to decide if I want both front and rear cameras or just front since I have rear PDC.

It's true that front sensors are not too effective with the concrete parking stops. The sensor will detect a curb or parking stop initially but as soon as it passes the horizon it stops sensing. I find it effective around walls and its great for street parking.

If you decide that you only want to do a rear PDC retrofit I have my PDC ECU (Rear Only) for sale.

Why can't they make the same sensors embedded in the center cap of the wheels, using the same wireless technology as TPMS? That would surely prevent tons of curbed wheels, and I'd happily pay an extra $500 for the option.

Stangely enough I am wanting to do the exact opposite.
In australia, M3's only come with front and reard PDC and on a white car i think it detracts a lot from the looks.

So I will be trying to remove my PDC and getting rid of it!

I inquired not for myself, more for my daughter, last year when we were wine tasting in the Napa Wine Valley with our Z4 she drove smack into a parking stop as we tried to leave the winery, she and I forgot it was there. Besides how do you tell your daughter "sorry you cannot drive my car" So I don't want it to happen to my M3 you see

No parking sensors for me
