i brought my car in for service and asked to have my car update to 231E. The SA said ok no problem. I have an ESS tune so i knew it would be overwritten. Anyway get the car back and i still have my no cold start which means my ESS tune was not overwritten. I check my sheet, says was not fully encoded due to aftermarket audio parts, some bullshit. My question is, to those Who updated, did you lose your old ecu settings and need to reflash again, or does the update add on top of your current ecu?

aresh wroteI had to send in to Evolve to get a new tune for the new software version & reflash to add the tune back in. Can you make a copy of your current software using the ESS software? If so, it should list your current software version. Doesn't sound like they did anything to it.i brought my car in for service and asked to have my car update to 231E. The SA said ok no problem. It takes lots of time, is a pain to do and they need to give BMW a reason to do it or they won't get paid. Sounds iffy to me. Yes, I had to have Dinan software reinstalled ater my update.
If your fiber optic loop is disconnected because you changed your amp or head unit ISTAP will not let you program the car. You have to reinstall your original radio/amp or see if they can do a IRAP session for you.
i have a 6sp o9 e92 with original software and anyone chime in on what is improved in version 231E?
thanks
thanks

Aftermarket parts/modules/amps, etc often cause problems with the updating process. They were smart to not update the car given the extra equipment that was connected.
I have same as expowner. Let me know as well. Thanks!
I paid for the update, thats what pisses me off, its ok to not have the update go through and NOT charge me. They charged me for the update and im almost hundred percent sure they didnt install a new one. Roman@ESS, i do have the ESS software but i went in to the dealer and i did not have 231E. I did not know that you guys updated to 231E as Well?
What is 231E update - what does it do??
