Rod Bearings Replaced

So I recently bought a Metallic Silverstone 2008 E90 M3 MT with 91k miles and absolutely love it! Finally joined the V8 club, woop woop! Anyway..soon after I bought it, all my buddies were warning me about the early rod bearing failure the S65 is prone to having. I somehow missed this small issue when doing research before I bought it. Either way, I decided to order some BE bearings and APR rod bolts and get the job done. Day and a half later and the jobs done, not to bad. I'm just curious now on the wear "pattern" on the bearings, seems odd to me compared to other photos of bearings around my mileage and what they look like. Thoughts?.."Normal" wear for S65 at this mileage?

I would have been interesting to run an oil analysis on those bearings.
It's pretty bad looking but not the worse here. Definitely a good thing to change them out.

A few hundred!? I didn't realize how rare they actually were, good to know. I was initially going to run a oil analysis through Blackstone and then decide but while doing an oil change right after I bought the car, I found one oil pan drain plug to be stripped and upon re installation of the plug..the pan started leaking oil..to a drip every 30 seconds That's when I decided to just do the bearings and heli-coil the drain. Glad I did it the end, it was definitely needed.

Are you sure about that? Isnt it early 08 DCT that are more rare?

Yes, there were only 200 DCT 2008 E90s built. The other 2080 E90 2008 cars were all 6MT.

I thought this too DCT more rare in 08 models.

You caught the situation on time , because it was time to replace your bearings ASAP !

No , the bearing wear in your pics is absolutely not normal . But for our S65's it seems to be normal because we see this degree of S65 bearing wear a lot on Bimmerpost .

Nice job. my 08 was bearings looked bad but yours is worse.

Sorry. Brain fart. Back then I wanted a DCT E90 M3 and they couldn't find one. Now, I'd prefer a manual, but can't find one!

I'm glad you replaced those bearings! Wow those look horrible!

I think the photo filter enhances the visibility of the wear, but it is good to note that they are all worn evenly and look about as good/better as most of them pulled. Definitely a good catch, yet seems as if the motor was put together as intended....whatever that means.

Yes, I did "tweak" the photo a tad to better enhance the visibility of the wear of the bearings. I thought they looked worse then some of the other photos I have seen of worn bearings around my mileage. Either way, much peace of mind now that those bearings are out and new properly sized bearings are now installed. hallelujah
