6.5K RPM Cold Start Redline?

Just recently noticed after we dropped into the negative temperatures that my cars cold start redline is at the 6k-6.5k mark instead of the normal 4.5k that I had in the summer.

At first I thought I was the only one with this "issue" but another member 954MM posted his cold start on his IG with the same 6k redline.

Is this normal?

I’ve never seen my cold start redline below 6ish.
I’ve only seen a 4.5k redline when In limp mode

That's weird. From what Im reading all coldstart redlines were at 4.5k unless tuned?

mine has always been at about 6.5k on a cold start, but we aren't as cold as you guys. no tune here.

I could be wrong but I don’t think there is a tune that raised cold redlines since it’s such an important safety. But I believe mine was always at about 6kish even before I got my tune. Can you tell me something about yours, when it’s completely warmed up where does yours idle? I noticed mines at a notch above 500 seems low to me and I don’t recall it always being that low

I read on another thread that when someone was braking it would drop to that with the brake pedal down something about the brake boosters or something

Thanks for that. I actually remember reading that a few weeks ago. Mine idles slightly above 500 without my foot on anything. today I was sitting in a parking lot with it running not touching any pedals and it just stalled. I’m led to believe it’s most likely the fuel breather valve but was wondering if my idle was abnormally low which might suggest it’s something else

500-550 seems to be the norm, I remember asking BOOF-M3 about his idle range a few weeks ago

550 +. Mine doesn't drop below 550+.

6.5K is the lowest stock point on a cold start. Most of the cars you see with a 4.5k rev limit were tuned by us with the enhanced rev limit protection feature. It lowers the redline by 2k RPM and releases the full redline more slowly as the car warms.

The only other reason you'd see 4 a 4500 redline is in limp mode (such as when there is an ICV failure, etc).

Idle speed rpm can vary for a number of reasons, but even at its lowest point shouldn't induce stalling. I'll have to check the code but if I recall correctly the absolute minimum is 550ish.

Great info thanks. Yea mine just did it for the first time last night. I didn’t get gas or anything and there were no codes thrown. There’s a thread saying it’s the fuel breather valve which I’m guessing is my problem since I been having issues somewhere with a fuel related part, I can’t fuel the car without the pump stopping every 15seconds. No matter what I do, hold it at an angle hold it at 12 o’clock hold it half in nothing

Now that I think of it this started happening after I changed my spark plugs. Could that have been a reason also?

I don’t really care whether my cold limiter is 9000 and it is 0F outside because I don’t do over 3000 until the car is warm. I don’t need a limiter to drive the car reasonably.
