NYG wroteAs I understand it, its not (only) the engine, but the aerodynamics of the car. That Honda engine is a beast.
GuidoK wroteOh it's definitely the aero in the higher speeds but the way it put that power down on the restart was spicy. The low drag RB is a monster. As I understand it, its not (only) the engine, but the aerodynamics of the car.
The RB18 can create a lot of downforce (probably from the floor) while not creating that much drag on high speed. So they probably have to run less wing to have comparable downforce in corners.
When other teams would try to run with that little drag, they would miss the necessary downforce in the corners.
The biggest differences are made at high speed with the RB18, not in acceleration. When accelerating in a straigth line, the cars from the top teams are pretty much on par I think.

Can any of you American forum members explain why a indycar star would contemplate a move to AlphaTauri?
OG Shark wroteI think they're going to petition ovals as legible experience to the FIA.F1 at COTA drew over 400k for the weekend - Indy Car at COTA can't even get 40k...
I feel like even here in the US F1 has more appeal than Indy car at this point. 3 races here next year, audience growing quickly - could definitely see the allure for even a top Indy car driver. AT has some good appeal right now too if Checo cannot get back up to speed. No long term contract in place could open the door to the big team if he can deliver. Really the only way I could see him having even a remote opportunity driving a top tier car in his career. Even if that seat is against a driver who crushes the souls of his teammates - at least there is a chance of winning. Otherwise I do not see a path for anything better than mid tier (at best). And if it all doesn't work out he would have no problem getting a ride back in Indy. I think having this backup goes a long ways to making the decision easier.
Would be interesting to see what he can do in F1 - but like a lot of drivers he needs to start minimizing the mistakes. Not a whole lot of patience for those kind of errors & will not last long if they are not limited.
NYG wroteWould love to see Kmag as teammate from MAX at Red Bull !I think they're going to petition ovals as legible experience to the FIA.
So many great Indy drivers missed out on F1 because their experience is not valued well enough.
I think right now Red Bull is interested in testing Colton at AT for a year or two to see if he may be a viable replacement for Checo at some point.
///M Power-Belgium wroteI think he's too unpolished of a driver to be on RB. It would be the same result as it was with Gasly and Albon.Would love to see Kmag as teammate from MAX at Red Bull !
Kmag has at least the B@lls and he loves dog fights ...
NYG wroteOn the other hand US drivers havent been particularly succesful in F1 in the last 3 decades. Granted, there have only been 2: Scott Speed, a somewhat rookie, but also Michael Andretti, who was a seasoned driver when he came to F1 with lots of US indy wins to his name. I remember when he entered F1 there were some pretty high hopes, but in the end it was all a big failure. (whether or not that was on his performance, or on mclaren, or both...in the end the results just weren't there)So many great Indy drivers missed out on F1 because their experience is not valued well enough.
NYG wroteSure . Perhaps I would like Kmag at Red Bull because Checo is too kind in the race ..I think he's too unpolished of a driver to be on RB. It would be the same result as it was with Gasly and Albon.
I love KMag but he keeps making such silly mistakes on race starts over and over and over and over.

Marko Isn't happy with Checo's race data ..
That's why I think , Checo won't get a new Red Bull contract ..

///M Power-Belgium wroteUntil RBR can find someone who can drive a car that VER prefers they will keep chewing through the 2nd seat. No one has shown that ability so far and I feel the likelihood of finding that driver is slim. Checo is a solid driver but just doesn't have that next level like Max does. Once Max got his wings under him being his teammate has been a bit rough. Hope Checo gets up to speed but feel like he's in a tough spot.Sure . NYG wroteThat would be interesting to say the least. I do not see Charles wanting to do that though. RBR will continue to cater the car to VER (as they should) and knowing you are coming in with that already in place would be a huge negative. Just feel like the risk/reward is too skewed here. But if FER keeps playing the usual stupid FER games on track he might just jump ship to anywhere to be able to get away from that circus.I think we can both agree there.

OG Shark wroteI don’t see Checo at risk right now with the team harmony. Checo is the best #2 on the grid...
Bubbles wroteAgreed, I think to be fair everyone is being very critical of Checo and he's delivering exactly what he needs to deliver to Red Bull. They couldn't ask for more.I don’t see Checo at risk right now with the team harmony. Checo is the best #2 on the grid.
Marko is pushing Checo so he has to make such statements in the media. But I expect if Max continues to win, Checo will remain on the team.
Checo’s racecraft is good but for some odd reason he struggles with Sainz. Maybe it’s the Spain vs Mexico undercurrent.
