I was in the same configuration with an ESS locked tune, revert back to OEM 241E and tuning with ecuworks binary modification tool and Mss6x flasher...just perfect

I don't remind any difficulty for reverting it to OEM 241E with daten V60/68/70 or 71 following this thread

I have a bimmergeek cable, don't know about ecuworks cable, but you need a flashed cable or you brick the DME

Hi everyone,

I’m preparing to flash my DME to 241E and noticed two different numbers in WinKFP: 7854376 and 7854377. I have an EUROSPEC with DKG. Does anyone know what the difference is between these two?

Any info would be appreciated!

Thanks in advance.
By attempting with regular DCAN cable do you mean a K+DCAN cable off amazon won't work or it just needs the switch to be able to finish the ecu update?

That type of cable will do basic coding with NCSexpert for example, but not FLASHING (winkfp or mss6x flasher).

You will brick it.

You need one of those cables, but one that's had ediabas firmware loaded on.

I bought from

in regards to the "Switch," I believe that's needed for E46 (mss54) to get into the engine module versus something like airbags or light module. But msss54 doesn't need the cable flashed with ediabas like mss6x does, so it's kind of weird that these companies pick a cable with a swtich for their e9x offerings. I guess it's nice for people like me, who have both e9x and e46 - 1 cable for both cars.

For the DCT files, being 1 number apart like that was u.s. versus euro (...68 vs ...69). Perhaps the same with the ecu software?

This thread addresses it

but I didn't see a good answer. Looks like the 376 was what one poster thought was right for his u.s. car, so maybe you need the ..377.

So to be clear this won’t work? I’ve never heard of a ediabas loaded cable before. Thanks for the help

Not worth the risk buying the china cables imo.

Buy the bimmergeeks cable (or similiar cable with the confirm updated firmware) or you risk bricking your ecu if the china cable doesn't have the firmware that fixes the issue.

this is what you would need to do to update the firmware on the china cables:

That taotao cable will most likely brick your ECU!

If you read the description it says:
"The product does not support programming of other modules. Can not Programming and commissioning replacement control units for SMG transmission (E46 M3, E60 M5, E63/64 M6). Can not Programming key fob module. Can not Programming CAS module. Can not Programming Light control module."

Proceed at your own risk but I would not attempt to flash an ECU with that cable.
Do not pass go!

This particular cable will not have ediabas loaded, no. However, you can load ediabas onto that cables ATmega 162 microprocessor yourself. It's no rocket science.

First, you need to check if it has a real FT232R chip on it. Or at least FT recognizes it as real, with FT_Prog. If it does, then you are all set.

Then follow a diy (there are plenty online), like this:
https://ecu.wiki/update-your-kdcan-cable-net-bmw-ediabas-toolset/

First you will need to buy AVR programmer (USBasp) for like 5 bucks or adruino (more expensive) and some jumper cables. And a soldering iron, if you don't have one.

That way you are 100% sure that the cable is ok and there is no need to guess which one to buy.

I mean, if you cannot do this then better not start messing with your ECU.
