I dropped my car off for service yesterday night after hours to have a safety restraint error looked at and to have my Performance Steering Wheel installed. My car has less than 13k miles on it. They just called me and said my car was due for a "rear brake flush" according to my keyfob, and that my airbag wasn't compatible with the new steering wheel.

Both of these things sound like BS... can anyone confirm?
So my car has now been at the dealer for a full week to have the Performance Wheel installed. I went to pick it up last week, but when I drove away I noticed none of the functions on the steering wheel were working (shift lights, gforce, etc.). I immediately returned and gave the car back. They said there was a shorted wire somewhere, and they have had the car since. Now they say they are having trouble programming the wheel and they have been trying to do a full software upgrade or something. Is there a software upgrade even necessary for this accessory?
"Programming the wheel"?

According to this DIY Performance Steering Wheel install Aleks did there's no "programming" required. He installed it himself and it was good to go! See post #17 in particular.

The programming "story" and "rear brake flush" all sound like BS.

The programming in particular sounds like a way to charge more or an attempt to cover up a faulty install. Perhaps there are other things we don't know about but that seems unlikely. (Aleks had an 08 as well, so it's not an 08 vs. 09 thing.) Why would BMW sell a product that didn't work with the existing air bag? That just doesn't make sense.

It all sounds fishy to me. Here's the DIY.
Sorry, I should have said they did make a mistake when saying the airbag wasn't compatible, and there was no charge for the brake flush so I assume it was a regular service item.
So I'm screwed. The dealership is claiming the wheel is broken (there was a BMW Engineer there yesterday). I bought it from Turner Motorsports almost a year ago and I haven't had the car in for service until now to have it installed. When Turner Motorsports first sent the wheel out, I only received the wheel and none of the parts that went with it. I didn't realize there were other parts included at first, and when I did I called them up and they took care of it and did in fact send me the parts I needed. I am thinking they DID send me a broken wheel (I don't know if they knew it or not) because I ordered the optional suede trim piece, and it came with two (one in the box with the wheel actually attached, and one separately in its own box).

Now I have to contact Turner and try to get them to take back a wheel that I bought almost exactly a year ago, and claim that it was sold to me as defective. Who knows if they'll take it back, and if they don't it's been way to long to have my credit card company deal with it. Either way I'm out the $300 for the dealership trying to install a defective wheel, and I haven't had my car for a week.
