should I just get M3? I have a C63

Hey folks!

Please no flame here. I am hoping I can get some wise advise here.

C63 AMG
1. Good HP and very torquey
2. Beautiful exhaust notes
3. it's a beast after I chipped the ECU
4. can't imagine after I change aftermarket exhaust
Cons:
1. disappointing gear box
2. handling is not what I want from a sport sedan
3. it feels heavy through corners

E90/92 M3
1. Much better handling and more fun to drive
2. MDCT is much better
3. lighter weight
4. I like M3's style more
5. keyless and Harmon Kardon is nice

Cons:
1. A lot less torque and less HP
2. exhaust note is less exciting
3. If I floor it in straight line, AMG will be faster and pulls a lot harder
4. F30 M3 will be out in like 2 years?

I bought my 2010 C63 6 months ago, I have done body kits, and chipped. Somehow I still want a M3. I will get a huge hit on the deprecation. I thought about the facelift C63. ( it is nice ) I don't think it's worth it. Also I am afraid I will need to rev the xxxx out of M3 to get power.

I'd keep your c63 if you plan on staying automatic. One of the main reasons all the magazines deem the M3 the more fun car to drive is due to the manual. If you want a manual, get the m3. Otherwise, keep your car or wait for the C63 AMG Black Series, it should be revealed in the coming weeks.

I must need an auto box for 63/M3 since It is my dd. Thanks for the info on the black series. It will be a lot of $!

ugh...yeah, the manual is the "main" reason the M3 is more fun. Why, lets just get rid of that ol' clunky, no-fun having, dual clutch with lightning speed shifts. Has nothing to do with a well designed chassis, near perfect balance and gearing, high revving engine, marvelous driving dynamics and suspension, and the absolute best balance of power and driveability.




to the TS, it's really not that hard of a choice:

If you do mostly city driving, use it as a DD, and don't do much tracking or at least take it to twisty roads often, then the C63 will be a better match for you...it has more brute power, tons of torque, and chipped it is tons of fun around town or on trips.

If you do DD but also go to the track, take twisty roads, or simply put more emphasis on looks, handling, and overall balance, the M3 is the better choice.

Keep what you got for awhile longer. Six months is way to fickle to be looking for another car and the money hit will be huge plus the mods won't be worth much. You will be very dissapointed with the M3 engine if you value low end torque. The hp in the M3 comes on very high in the rev band. Being used to the C63 AMG power delivery, you will find the M3 a tuff pill to swallow for a daily driver. Keep the benz and wait for the F30 M3 or what ever else comes out in the market place that suits your needs.

As much as I love the E92 M3, I was already to buy one, but could not find the love in the engine for a daily driver. I took one home for a weekend in planning to buy it, but passed on it. I have become addicted to the low end torque I have in the 135i and my previous V8s in Corvettes. Now if the M3 is going to be mainly a track car and not a DD, then it full fills that mission well. I am holding out for the F30 M3 and have the best of both worlds.

I recently sold my Audi RS4 and looked at about 10 different cars before settling on the M3. Honestly, there is no perfect car out there. Once you get to this overall level of car, it's not just about the pure performance, but sophistication, design, image, etc. You really can't go wrong. It really comes down to personal preference and a lot of subjective things. In terms of pure performance, the Nissan GTR is the most incredible car I have ever driven, but it lacks any refinement whatsoever, and the looks are very questionable.

Do what ever makes you happy, if your heart says M3...go for it. I did test drive both before I put in my order for my m3. To me the m3 suits my personality and driving style better.

And an M3 is more of a mans car imo =P

The cars are too similar especially on the street you will not notice a difference. The C63 turn in is very fast but then doesn't finish up where as the M3 is more sharp all the way thru. I wouldn't do it if i were you. To give up those nice 6 piston brakes? I'm sure in 3 years the M3 probably will have a power boost and maybe that car would be a better replacement for you.

Having another car is the way to go. The perfect daily driver and a weekend sports car. I really enjoy my boxster spyder thus i'm suggesting a Cayman R or something as a 2nd. Great handling car with great handling feel for the price.

OP When I was in the market I thought the C was as enjoyable as the M3 in automatic/non manual. The only thing I can say bad about the C is that it doesn't have DCT and that its quite stiff.. Other than that I would just keep the C if I were you. It is such an awesome beast.

Sounds like E9x M3 is not the car for you since you seem to want to have a sports car, but not rev the engine (which is an act I never understood). You should stick with C63 and later get a F3x M3. Or sell C63 now, get a 335i, put KW3s and tune it..

and balance, I think the M3 is a good balance of power for the chassis. But if you don't track your C63, though it's a very capable track car, then I would just keep it too. One way you can go is see if someone wants to trade with you on this board.

Keep the C63.

If you are worried about needing to wind out the M3 to get the bulk of its power, its the wrong car for you. There is no comparison in low end grunt; the C63 will dust it from down low. However, there is a lot more to a performance car than mere low end torque.
