I do. It helps prevent misfires and gets any corrosive grime that may be left off. It can't hurt. And I enjoy it typically doing it on a sunday watching football.

Some guns are more finicky than others. The 1911 and the AR like a lot of cleaning. The AK and the garands could probably care less. I just do them all regardless. Its calming like washing the car.

I do light clean most every time I shoot but not breakdown and solvent, still seems excessive

A gun doesnt have to be cleaned every single time you use it....particulary....ESPECIALLY if you regularly use the gun.

A handgun you use regularly or carry (ie depend on) DOES however require proper lubrication ESPECIALLY in the winter

If however you're shooting corrosive ammo then you need to clean that gun more or less immediately after shooting.....I recommend windex down the barrel/in chamber to neutralize the primer salts.....if its not a bolt action gun you'll need to pull apart the entire gas system and clean it too......unless you like rust/useless guns

People do more damage to guns while cleaning than doing anything else with them

I stopped cleaning every time i shoot a wile ago. Especially with blue collar guns. If i only shoot a gun every now and then, i'll full clean and putt a storage amount of lube on it. Too many gunsmiths told me that full solvent cleaning after every shoot is bad.

That said, take care of your tools and your tools will take care of you.

My post shooting ritual, during a movie or football game, is jamming the mags. I keep most mags loaded so i can just grab and go to the range/farm.

I keep my magazines filled all the time...thank the lord for speed loaders. I enjoy doing it and am sure i will enjoy cleaning them. Similar to wrenching on the car.

I usually have some loaded and rest in boxes for down the road. This doesn't work very well with a beard.

See I don't see it as lazy, I too don't think it's a good idea to overclean a gun that's routinely used. Keep it lubed up and do it once in a while

Can see yer POV but not chancing any residue corroding any part of my guns but will do breakdown cleaning and oil whenever time allows.. esp in the more humid months

You wont get corrosion from fouling from modern ammunition....especially with the coatings that are on modern firearms....and its especially not an issue on anything with a chrome lined barrel or stainless barrel

Accuracy is actually BETTER on firearms with SOME fouling.....HUNDREDS of rounds of fouling will have a negative effect

I buy cheap ammo many from foreign makers cause I shoot alot.. not sure their primers etc so I dont take a chance plus they generally dirtier

just my .02cents, clean it and maintain it like your life depends on it..just like pre flight checks...

I dont full solvent clean each time. I do a bore snake and oil and wipe the rest. The 1911 likes to be wet with oil. The AR hates carbon buildup.

Its virtually impossible to find current production ammunition with corrosive primers these days

Anything comm block surplus is definately corrosive

ie anything 7.62x54r, most of the Yugo 7.62x39, most of the 8mm

I do shoot corrosive 8mm in my k98 and do clean thst after almost immediately. I also live in humid florida so keeping everything oiled doesnt hurt.

Ya I shoot Russian and Serbian ammo and suspect theyre corrosive

I doubt there is a wrong answer here. Most of us don't shoot enough where solvent cleaning after each shoot would be detrimental. And a simple bore snake and shot of lube after each shoot is generally more than enough to keep everything in good working order. You know your gear, take care of it as needed.

As Fundguy pointed out, different weapons like different treatment. You can run a glock dry as a bone for weeks. Do that with most 1911s and you're toast after a few mags.

Just don't get that lacquer crap
