Best we lost. Otherwise it would be forever: USA*
Belgium should have won…love our guys but we played disjointed…like it was our first match and we were still gelling. It def was not the same team that played against Bosnia. Belgium was too good 1-v-1 and faster. Plus didn’t even play a true game changer player, so I’ll def be watching Bel vs Spain

While watching the Mexico/England game the night before I even told my wife “we couldn’t keep up with either team”

Great run and it was cool to see the nation come together in support
oof that went way worse than expected for the USA... we were actually somehow favored and that whole fiasco w the red card just put it over the top... We played 0 defense as 2 goals were essentially free.

That being said, this was it for us or the next game either way so it is what it is... I hope no one actually really believed we would get any further.
First goal he essentially walked into the net with the ball. Very embarrassing.
Oh dear 2-0 to Egypt, Messi's dream is crumbling, Maradona must be turning in his grave..so can the striped shirts reply in some way ?

..But in a flash Argentiina equalises with two goals in a flash and Egypt is definitely on the defensive now.

At 101 minutes it's 3-2 as the World Champions go forward.

When Egypt went up 2-0 (both times), the cameraman zoomed in on Messi. His face showed it all. He didn't look beaten, he just looked worried. Then, he and his team said, not today, we are not going to get beat today.

Hats off to Egypt for giving it a go.

Spectacular match.

I took the trouble of opening this link and reading FIFA's message on integrity. It's a total word salad. Even AI could not have written it any better.

Reminds of slick chest-beating "Corporate Governance Code" sections on many company websites before and during the 2008 financial crisis. Many went out of business, grossly failing to have practiced what they had preached.

England may actually get past the quarter finals this time? What you guys reckon?

Man I don’t know….Norway is looking good…going to be an epic match. They held up great 1-v-1 against Mexico
Okay, I'm going to put my toe in the water and make a prediction for the Quarter Finals outcome. Disclaimer: Please take it with a grain of salt because I am no expert, just a casual observer who has watch almost ever match during this world cup. I have zero technical knowledge about the game and probably cannot name 3 players from each team, so if I were you I'd stop reading right now! :) That said, my guessing is probably as good as anyone else's guessing.

I went to the Swiss-Qatar match at San Francisco Stadium (aka Levi's Stadium). I had a relative visiting from Switzerland who lives in the town in which my father was born. It is awesome to see a World Cup match in person. I'd love to see the Swiss move on for family reasons, but I don't think that's going to happen. Quarter Finals is a great accomplishment for Switzerland; They haven't achieved this level since 1954. I'm guessing their journey is over, not because FIFA allegedly favors VARgentina, but because Argentina has an amazing team.

Anyway, here are my guesses. I'll look back at this post on Sunday and realize just how wrong I was....:)

France beats Morocco.
Belgium upsets Spain.
Norway beats England
Argentina clobbers Switzerland
I like those predications, but I'm pretty unsure of the Norway England outcome. Seems very 50-50

I'm 50% with you.

Alternatively:
France beats Morocco.
Spain beats Belgium.
England beats Norway.
Argentina clobbers Switzerland.

Then Argentina plays either France or Spain in the finals.

Rooting for the underdog Norway and Erling Haaland!!
I think Norway can beat England... then the other predictions I agree with.

Then we get the Argentina / France final that FIFA is betting on.
Norway and Argentina in the final. The crooked refs red card Haaland in the first minute. Messi scores a Hand of God handball (see Maradona) goal and it is allowed. Another player from Norway gets a red card.

FIFA and The World Cup are rigged. All sports aka entertainment are rigged. Maybe not sportscar racing. If there is any better involved, it is rigged. They even allow betting in golf now.

It is sickening and blatantly obvious after seeing Cabo Verde and Egypt get robbed.
And that is why you always follow through with a shot!

You are on track. Belgium gave Spain a run for their money.

Yep, all games will be good from now on.
I don't see Norway prevailing over England, but would love to be wrong about that one (Norwegian post-game celebrations are fun).

The biggest upset potential is Argentina. They will either win it all, or fall asleep and drop out at any point.

IMHO,

I'm pulling for Norway too. It should be a great match.

Well, I got the first one right. This is why I don't bet on sports. :)

Spain was so strong.

Norway hung in there but England prevailed.

The Swiss team made Argentina work for it. I'm a fan of the Swiss team, but I agree with the call on Embolo. Sure, many players flop and don't get called for it, but in this case, it's the Quarter Finals and Embolo already has a yellow card and the Swiss team was doing well. He took an unnecessary chance and it cost him and the team everything.

New prediction for the semifinals, not a chance, I'll get it wrong! :)
oof - so much to say about Argentina and Switzerland... Switzerland played the better game here and looked like a better team... they completely shut down Messi who didn't do anything at all... Switzerland messed up massively w the yellow card which is clearly well deserved and were still playing quite well with 10 players... refs also played with Argentina as Fifa has already determined this world cup
