Steering Wheel Vibration Woes Continue!

Guys,

My steering wheel vibration woes continue with my E92 M3. Car has 39K miles with fairly new tires.

I first took the car to the dealer, who said that 3 of my 4 wheels were bent. The front right and my rear wheels. I had the bends fixed and the vibrations continued.

I then had the wheels rebalanced and while it is slight, the vibrations persist! It is a slight rhythmic jiggle past 70 miles per hour. It worsens with bad road surfaces.

I am running stock 220Ms with 255s in the front and 275s in the rear. I am dropped on Eibach springs and have had an alignment. I have run in a couple of HPDE events but my tires are still in great shape.

I am trying to figure out what my next area for troubleshooting should be based on this thread:

It honestly could be the roads you drive on. There are plenty of roads around me that make the wheel vibrate and then after a section of road it stops.

I wish you were right warp, but the rhythmic nature of it leads me to believe that there are some other issues at play.

Could be that the wheels weren't "fixed" so well.

Well, the tire shop who did the balance rotated the wheels before balancing them and didn't detect any bends, so I would like to believe that the wheels were fixed appropriately.

Any idea how the wheels got bent in the first place? Are you the first owner? Possible previous accident?

Ask the dealer if you could borrow a set of front wheels to confirm where the vibration is coming from. See if that eliminates the problem ( and you could switch out one to see what wheel is the worst)

Hmmm not sure, I've definitely hit some potholes. No prior accidents. According to the dealer, the bends were VERY minor.

i would take it back to the place that did the balancing and make them show you what their system says (assuming you took it someplace that has really good balancing equipment).

I wouldn't knowingly run bent wheels, but even slightly bent wheels can be balanced to the point of imperceptible vibration. if you had them fixed then it's probably a balancing issue. like others said try another set of wheels.

Could also be a tire, which would be detected with a road force balancer and a competent tech. again solution is to try another set of wheels and/or a competent wheel shop

I actually watched them balance the wheels so covered there

I had this problem as well and could not figure it out either. I then installed Springs and swaybars on the car, re-aligned and the vibrations are gone.

Could be alignment?

was it a Hunter road force balancer? GSP9700 or whatever the model is...

Hello, I'm the OP of the thread in your post. Have a thorough read of another thread that I contributed to, especially the part about match mounting. Should eventually solve your problem.
