I've searched but didn't find a clear answer.

My car is stock w/M performance exhaust + the 240E update.

Is the tune that much better? Really looking forward to the thoughts of owners with the same setup. Thanks.

Hey skypx,

240E is the the software version the tune is based on. Everyone that gets the tune is first updated if they're on an older version.

The M Performance exhaust only changes the rear section and leaves all the stock cats in place, so you'll get the Stage I tune. It will be the same as anyone else that has Stage I, except yours will sound much better. :)

Here's my review of Stage I:

I had no complaints about the car in stock form but having past experience in cars with ECU tunes, I knew I wanted something for the M3, and BPMSport delivered. The car is improved in so many different ways. First, the car just seems so much smoother. It's hard to describe in words but it just feels so much more refined. It idles better, it revs more freely and smoothly, and yet at the same time it is more aggressive and has a little more snarl in the induction sound (which I love). The throttle response is greatly improved in all three modes (Normal, Sport, and Sport +). In Normal mode, the response seemed just a little too sluggish but now it is perfect for daily driving. ..
Thanks for the reply Merlossso, I've read your review a LOT! You are why I really want to get the tune!

But here's the thing...... I always drive in sport mode+D5 (S5 when I want to clear my path :D)...... The only reason I don't drive in sport+ is distraction. (Dora+2yr old son :D in the back seat)

I think I tried the normal mode for a day....... horrible....car felt like it was asleep.......

I'm just trying to get a sense of how much better the 240E upgrade is compared to the stage 1 tune. Thanks.
240E isn't an upgrade; its just the latest software version. It's more refined than the older versions, but its not a tune. If you were on an old version and were updated to 240E, you would notice some minor improvements but wouldn't be blown away. Again, its not a tune.

The tune is an upgrade. It takes the baseline OEM software and makes adjustments for improved performance. This is where you'll get improved low end torque, more power, and improved throttle response, etc.

For me, it was worth every penny and I'll never go back to stock.

Hope this helps!

I recently installed BPM stage 1. I love it. I noticed that you are local. If you want we can meet up for a drive - that is if you know how to drive manual ;)

Oops, sorry I thought you were in Toronto area. Generic avatars :)

I'm the same set up as you. I've pored over every single review and post re the stage 1 tune and can't wait to get it on the car. Do it!

I realize the 240E software isn't a tune. ;)

Ok, good. I was confused by your earlier statement and wanted to clarify just to be sure. ;)

I'm in Maryland so if you want to meet up, let me know.

No worries, I would love to meet but it's a long drive from Williamsburg. Thanks for the offer.
If you need more power, theres only a few bolt ons you can do to the car that make good gains, the tune is one of them, definitely worth it. I'd also highly recommend ditching the cats too. Together you are looking at about 40hp, and for about $1500, its worth every penny!
I have /// Performance Exhaust with 240E stage I BPM tune. Really enjoy it. After driving in sports mode for five years, now I drive in normal. Car is so responsive right throughout the throttle input and just addictive. That's good enough for me because I don't track the car and I don't need any more power. It's not useable on the public roads in Australia, and I won't do insane speeds. I have a four-year old daughter.

Did you have the 240E update before the tune?

We updated him to 240E and then tuned his car. Prior to that he was on an older version from BMW.

Thanks for the reply Mike. I'm ready to pull the trigger as soon as the cables arrive. :happyanim:

Hopefully I won't have to tether the laptop to the iPhone, getting really close to PCS time. ;)

Will let you know as soon as they come in.

Thank you!
Anyone have dyno numbers for this configuration? Curious to see how much HP can be made without going the test pipe route.
