Fault codes 2722 and 27BB in DME - 08 E90 M3

Under normal driving circumstances I had a Service Engine Soon light come on followed by the increased emissions. I took my (2008 E90 M3) to the dealer and they pulled FC 2722 and 27BB in the DME. Said they checked the fuel system and intake system for air leaks and there were no issues.

I am out of warranty in right around a month...

I was unable to come up with anything about these two codes via Google and was wondering if anyone had any further insight? Trying to avoid "oh nothing is wrong lets reset the code because we won't make any money off this ticket and send this guy packing" and then this occurring again right outside of my warranty scope and me getting taken from behind.

Just got my 08 E90 back a couple of weeks ago from having the fuel control sensor and fuel pressure controller replaced (don't know the DME codes, but I had SES, Increased Emissions as well). The dealer had to open a PUMA case to get it figured out. If you're still under warranty, I would take it back to the dealer and request they do the same for you. ESP this close to your warranty expiration.

I believe if you note the issues with the dealer and it sounds like you did. They will fix it for you even out of the warranty time. ie. a service light comes on, they are aware of it and don't figure it out how to fix it until after your expiration date....They should still fix it. At least that's what I've been told. assuming that its not a problem created by you.

ps. if they pulled codes and you have a service light on under warranty. Shouldn't be your issue to research? Sounds like their issue to resolve? I would take it back and say figure it out!

Thanks for the info. Well they reset the SES and it has not come back on since. We will see...

My SA called me back with a list of the codes that prompted the repairs I mentioned above: 2788, 2722 and 2786. He listed a few others that they cleared... These three came back immediately. Hope this info helps!

OP I would higly recommend getting a Bavarian Technic Scan tool..everyone who owns a BMW should have one of these imo..especially if you are coming off warranty

BT Tool list the codes.. you probably have a VANOS issue

2722 "Oxygen sensor2 before cat"
27BB "Camshaft control outlet-VANOS"

The dealers love to clear codes and wait for them to pop up again..explain to them you have a month left and you want it fixed..GL

Ive got around 3,000 miles or 3 months before the warranty is up. I hope the codes return so I can get something resolved. I can't just go back to the dealer and say "I want this fixed based on what an Internet forum says" they will tell me to pound sand.

This was the info on the sheet they gave me:

FC 2722 27BB in DME. Followed test plan for checking fuel system. Performed fuel system test and checked fuel pressure at 6 bar ok. Compared tester reading with actual measured reading with fuel pressure tester both read 6bar. Checked intake system for air leaks. No leaks found. Cleared all adaptations and test drove. Faults did not return.


So - should I just be driving the car a bunch now to try to get the codes to return?

Could there potentially NOT be any issues and the codes won't return?

Is it possible that 2788 and 27BB aren't the same but are being interchanged incorrectly here? I only ask because I could swear we don't have VANOS issues?? Thought that was an E46-specific issue...

hey guys, was just browsing the forum.. Did you find any issues after the dealer reset your codes?

I just received the SES light accompanied by the "increased emissions." I took it to Autozone to get the codes read and they said the only code that was on it was U118. I have done a bit of searching, but have found nothing. After getting back home I immediately ordered the BT scan tool. Anyone have any ideas as to what that code is?

Fuel-pressure sensor, signal - Fuel Pressure Regulator 1 Control Circuit

Sensor value > 9.5 bar (K_PKS_DIAG_MAX)
Terminal condition: TERM87
1. Clear fault memory, PKS system test
2. Check plug and wiring harness to PKS
2. If OK, replace sensor

27BB- Fuel system, lambda/charge plausibility, bank 2
Deviation from mean value (depending on psau, lam, aq) in
percent is determined and compared with the max.
deviation (in relation to rpm/load factor)
KF_FPLAU_OBD_LAM_DELTA_ML_MAX

Check the fuel system for leaks/ 2. System test routine / 3.
HFM and charge path must be flawless./ 4. Defective fuel
pressure sensor

Sounds like maybe a fuel pressure sensor.

Yes. It is just the Low Pressure Fuel Sensor. Replace it, delete the code and that's it.

This seems like a common fault - I had a SES light come on with Increased Emissions. Went to OReillys and borrowed their code reader and it came with a code about bank 1 being too rich - forgot the exact code. A little searching on google and it seemed that the Low pressure fuel sensor as pictured above was the problem. It was a cheap enough fix that I thought it was worth a try before taking it to a local indy shop (mine is an 08 M3). I didn't drive it after the code came on in case the cats would be damaged. As soon as I replaced it the code was gone. I tried deleting the code first, and it came back in less than 30 miles. I have over 130 miles since replacing it, and so far so good. The interesting thing was that I didn't have to delete the code the second time. As soon as I replaced the fuel pressure sensor, the SES light was gone. Of course, now that I have posted this, the damn SES light will come back on!

yup! 27BB and i think 27BA bank 2 and bank 1. Replaced the part and car hasn't thrown that code again

from these pictures I assume there is a valve to prevent the fuel to spill over when removing the sensor ?
