Throttle actuator life

I know it depends on how often you use your car, I don't daily drive myself, 2008 Sedan here still original TA at 44k miles. What mileage did yours fail? Daily drive?

DD.. Left one failed around 78k.. Replaced both jst in case.
TA is a lot more common than RB and just as expensive as RB.

Mine failed on my 2008 at around 50K miles. Only one was replaced, but under the extended warranty

Any early sign/ warning to tell when the throttle actuator is about to die?

I think one of the signs is that your dashboard will look like a Christmas tree

2011, one faulty; both replaced under CPO, ~50 miles

Yeah. Lol! That was my experience too. Then, I pulled the code(s) and it indicated one of the actuators. After it had been replaced, however, I did notice a slightly improved throttle response, almost like it had been a little sluggish or sloppy before.

08 sedan here as well, left bank out at 87k miles. 2-3hr DIY to swap with new unit. Will replace gears and install in right bank when she goes.

Yep, which unfortunately doesn't tell you which bank. One of the 15 or 20 times I pulled codes when having TA issues, I finally got 2B2D which is Bank 2 (drivers side).

You can always turn on car without starting the engine (hit start button a few times without clutch) and physically look between plenum and engine to see which side is not working while someone is moving the go pedal. When I was first getting codes, both sides were still working until 2B2D came up.

Got bad news from the dealer. Bank 1 Throttle Actuator is shot. CA emissions covers it for 7 years 70k miles. My car is a 2008 with 53k but in service date of May 13 2008 so my dealer won't cover it. Mind you I just bought the car 2 1/2 weeks ago and the 30 day power train warranty they gave me doesn't cover it. Called BMW NA to see if they'll goodwill it. Fingers crossed.

I'd like to see the service record prior to you purchasing the car to ensure they're not covering up a known issue. The actuator(s) can start to fail, creating an intermittent fault.

Push BMW, these items are expensive.

Mine failed at65k miles. Barely squeaked in under the California 7y/70k emissions warranty. They replaced one actuator under warranty and I paid to have the other replaced while they were under there as preventative maintenance.
