Question: "Why do you carry a .45?"
Ans: "Because they dont make a "46"
Ans: "Because they dont make a "46"
jimj911 wroteThere are many stories, but when it comes down to the science of the issue. There is little to no difference between the "stopping power" of 9mm / .40cal. even .45acp for that matter. Think about your statement.... more impact energy... on the same soft target... does what? Over penetrate. The amount of variables that go into ballistic testing AND reporting is mind boggling. When you're talking about testing with the substance most closely resembling soft tissue, the results are pretty clear.I disagree and was under the impression that 9mm is such a high velocity that it doesn't have time to create much cavitation, thus the MANY stories I've heard from people who lived and died with their weapons saying they've seen too many times multiple rounds from a 9mm not stopping an assailant whereas the same placed rounds with a .40 or better yet a .45 have more impact energy, and being slower rounds they do more damage as they go through. I carry a small easily concealed Kahr CW40 with hollow points and an extended clip (mostly because a friend won it in a raffle and had no need for it and sold it cheap). My next purchase was going to be a HK 45 but I have read great reviews of the Ruger American Pistol (probably in .45).
Edit: sorry I didn't read the whole thread first and should have known this age old argument would have already commenced.
1MOREMOD wroteThis is trueThey make 50 though!
1MOREMOD wrote50 DE is sorta neat but its an attention whore pistolNo haven't shot a 50, those de are piece of crap poser gun.
jpnh wroteI've got one in 9mm. haha. It's actually called the "Baby Eagle". One of my first pistols.50 DE is sorta neat but its an attention whore pistol
1MOREMOD wroteIt's probably worth noting that 2 of the 14 industry experts who chose 9mm currently work for or own companies who primarily produce .45acp firearm platforms.Well said tonka
1MOREMOD wroteBeard and pistol intimidation should do the trick. Especially if you have the beast with you.I can't hit a school bus with anything so mines just for show then I book it
1MOREMOD wrotewould u match an expensive upper w a crappy lower? i mean maybeChange uppers
ASAP wroteI don't see an issue with this. I have a $1000 upper on a lower i bought for $75. Never an issue.would u match an expensive upper w a crappy lower? i mean maybe

jpnh wroteAgree, get a nice drop in trigger and a nice upper will likely = great rifle.define crappy lower?
Whats crappy about it?
All the lower does is hold the FCG and sit between the stock and the upper
There's not a tremendous amount of precision here
best upgrade IMHO aside from a decent quality upper is a good 2 stage trigger......Rock River, Larue and a bunch of others make wonderful triggers
jpnh wroteNot crappy, just not high end... I have S&W Mp sport 2 and the damn front sight irritates medefine crappy lower?

You could stick a hacked off hunk of wood on the end of the buffer tube and I could GAF but there's no substitute for decent trigger and open sights
