Anyone notice that if your applying maybe 50-60% throttle from the lower rpm ranges in lower gears its not very smooth alot of times. Mostly notice it when am trying to get out of a parking lot onto a busy highway quickly and the car would jerk as if power is coming on and off but not violently. My M is DCT.

Its sorta feels like the electronic bypass valve is closing and opening alot due to not applying the throttle super consistently so the engine is getting boost 1 second and not the next.
I just recently installed the harrop and I noticed this too. Glad to know it's being worked out.

FWIW my ESS does this too sometimes. Seems to get confused under partial throttle around 4k RPM.

I notice it when I need to accelerate out of second from low rpm. I'll step on the pedal maybe half to three quarters of the way and it'll hesitate. Its typically when I'm going just fast enough not to drop it down into first. It's just good to know that others have this issue.

If I'm giving it half to three quarter throttle consistently from low RPM to high RPM without shifting it will sometimes "hesitate" until about 4k. It's hard to describe, but you can feel a noticeable step in power delivery. I thought it was transitioning VANOS profiles in a non-linear way but Mike's fueling explanation also makes sense. It's not a consistent issue and only occurs under partial throttle.
Love my Harrop so far, but could also do with more power...heh. Any updates on Stage 2? Haha.
:bellyroll
I have the same thing. Ive learned to adjust my driving style around it using a bit more throttle when I want boost at those RPMs, then backing off a bit. Its been manageable for me.
Any eta when your going to iron this out of the tune Mike?

This is not normal. The hesitation I was describing is on tip in where it goes momentarily rich and then corrects. It should not hesitate with consistent throttle application. The o2 sensor feedback is pretty quick so the rich condition should almost immediately go back to target lambda.

I drove my car tonight for the first time in months... what a tire shredding blast it is. So much more linear and progressive than all of the new turbo cars. The sound, response, and power delivery is just incredible. I just love the thing.

Looking into potentially changing out the map sensor so the car can actually see "boost" in the mapping (this will make drivability 100% OEM - id say it's 90% there) and need to finish dialing in the larger injectors and flex fuel kit. There will be some developments here, aided by live tuning a stand-alone control unit, and then porting that back over to the stock DME.
Hearing this makes me want to buy one now (^_^)
My blurred shot driving back home last night with the 2017 IDrive system. Thought it was a cool pic.

I've been driving the F10 M5 non stop, and you really don't miss this car and it's characteristics until you get back into it.

Also another thing to note is that used kits put in another car technically could use a new bypass controller - as on initial startup it learns the positions of the throttle which can differ from car to car. The older kits didn't have a relearn procedure built into the firmware, whereas the newer ones do.

Can old kit owners upgrade the bypass controller? Is it just buy & install or is it going to be too complicated?

What is the process for purchasing a new bypass controller? Can we do that through you? I know I have an early build Harrop kit, and it was purchased second-hand. I developed a small leak on the thermostat housing, so I plan on taking off the blower this spring when the weather warms up, so it would be ideal to change that out at the same time.

Mike - I know we have spoken about the lean-rich hesitations with quick tip-in a few times, so if there is anything you need from us in the community (logs, beta testing, etc) just let me know. This is really the only negative attribute with this kit, so I'm looking forward to a solution.
The fact there is no proper tune is the only reason why I don't have this on my car. You would think it would be priority #1 for everyone involved.

It's just the control box in the DME housing - you are the original owner of your kit so yours was calibrated to your car on the first key cycle. No need for you to do anything :)

The tune is proper, and is extra safe. Has been track tested worldwide and abused by race teams on the 'ring. Drive one and you'll see how great it is.

Wonderful! In that case I'm looking forward to that smoothed out tune as well as stage 2.

Those are definitely not my doubts. I'm just a little apprehensive about the throttle issues others mentioned. I love this car but the headaches can really take away from the experience.
Any updates here? Looking forward to hearing about the Stage II upgrade and the AFD Flex Fuel kit to run e85.

Is no one going to ask about the 2017 iDrive retrofit?? :) Ok, Mike I don't see it on your site. How soon until it makes it into a kit?

Haha,

You can see some more pics here:

I've had multiple kits sitting here for months.. will probably release a kit once the M4/M3 Tuning load reduces. So far there is 50k of inventory collecting dust that I don't have time to list for sale :(

Also - as a side note, should be pretty easy to fix that hesitation. Spent a few minutes on my car with the stage II injectors and it's pretty much non existent.

The throttle body is not an on/off switch - but the cars understanding of boost is essentially an on/off switch with the stock pressure sensors.

M.Hagen - sent you a PM.
This is awesome. I'd definitely love to upgrade to the NBT EVO since im planning to keep my car until it breaks down and really like all the new features and techs on the newer models. You are making the E9x even more unique with this kind of upgrades integrated into this chasis.

Also can wait for the Stage II to be released and would love to stop by the shop by the shop for a joy ride if that's possible LOL..sold my 625 kit 1.5yr ago and really miss having a SC on my car ever since.
