Are E9X parts prices going up?

I only have one data point/experience:

Old forum posts indicated that the E9X Idle Control Device (Valve) (Part # 13417838024) used to cost about $250 each. Now the list price is $742.16. I got one online for $562. I just stopped by the local dealer to get some OEM clamps for installing the valve and their parts guy also said these idle control valves used to be around $250 each. He said he's seen a trend that the parts go up in price as the cars get older. I'm not liking this... Have you seen this trend?

I was going through IND's website and it appears the OEM splitters are more than what I remembered what they cost...

1) I assume most vendors are ordering inventory or doing bulk purchases months in advance. If you look at the Euro exchange, it was at a recent low of 1.06 Euro/$USD April 2017 and was at 1.23 Euro/$USD April 2018. That's 16% increase there just on exchange rate. So have a feeling that most parts inventory for this year will be pegged at the higher exchange rate.

2) Then compound that with the fact that the e9x platform is about to be 2 generations behind once they release the G8x. So typical phasing out of older generation inventory. You see that with BMW already stopping production on the MPE exhausts (although they are doing a nice final blowout on prices on final inventory).

3) Then throw in likely higher import tariffs in the months to come and probably folks and middleman are getting a jump on the pricing action.

I myself am eyeing a v2 electronic performance steering wheel and am in the same boat. It's already ridiculously expensive and will probably get more expensive in the months to come for the above 3 reasons.

I think the opposite, but I have only purchased appearance OEM parts.

Like the M Performance steering wheel, M Performance carbon fiber spoiler, etc.

All were like $200-300 cheaper than an original OEM price everyone paid back in 2010.

I wouldn’t look at IND for best pricing. Stuff seems overpriced actually. I found the ICV for alot cheaper in other brands boxes for the exact same part, bmw branded and all.

Where at? I was actually about to purchase an ICV and fuel tank breather valve to replace at the same time while I'm in there.

Try ECS Tuning, no one really beats their maintenance item prices. getBMWparts.com is another good one, formerly Tischer.

got my fuel tank valve from this site: cheapest i found on the web. i was hesitant at first, but ordered anyways. i dont think the part was brand new but it didnt have an defects, and so far its worked perfectly.

Doesn't BMW have warehouses full of parts for these M performance cars? I was reading somewhere that they still have a warehouse full of S65 engines in both Germany and somewhere in the US. God only knows how many E9X M3's were sold in their 6 years of production. Considering how long the generation lasted, shouldn't they have an almost infinite supply of parts for these cars?

It's widely happening in the non-M E9X too. I've noticed the 335iS engine mount was $80 before, it is now $700. Even the 335i fuel injectors used to be around $150 each and have gone way up as well. It's as if BMW has started jacking up routine maintenance/break-down parts pricing through the roof now that all of this generation is out of any sort of BMW sanctioned warranty; and the cars are now old enough to require replacements of such parts at high mileage.

My insurance went up recently for M3 and when i called and asked them why, they said that parts prices for this car are going up and thus they need to increase my rate by 20$ a month...

I, too, had a similar experience. I have a squeaky clean record and my M3 recently went about $20 a month. State Farm.

Yowza. I was going to buy an ICV about a month ago to have on reserve in the garage "just in case," and I am almost positive that it was about $250. Cheapest I can find is through ECS for about $640

Not entirely sure about this but I do remember reading a post in one of the forums that BMW extended warranties on the IDC to 10 years because they had issues. I'm not entirely sure if I am correct but you should do your research because there a lot of small things that many service advisors don't know about. I think the thread was titled "Extended warranty on throttle actuators" but after discussing it, people came to the conclusion that it was actually about the IDV that for some reason BMW put the word "actuator" in parenthesis. Try to find the forum. There was a picture of the warranty in writing. Not sure if I am 100% correct on it but it doesn't hurt to look for anything to decrease any costs for you. Good luck with it and definitely let me know if I was right about it.

Post #38 in that thread seems to state that the 10 year/120K warranty "is only for production dates 6/30/2012 to 6/27/13."

Looks like the original ICV's also had an issue (produced from 8/07 to 1/09). The original ICV part # was replaced by a new one at that point. Since mine is an '08 model, I must have had one of the original ICV's. Mechanically it's clean and perfect in every way (as you would expect with only 4K miles on the car). I cycled it with a power supply and the motor and gearing work well. I suspect it's got an issue with the internal electronics.

Very interesting. Too bad mine is a 8/11 build! I'm curious what is different about the 6/30/12 - 6/27/13 cars, though?

Also, for those that are interested in the components covered by the California Law for 7 years / 70k miles...

Do you happen to know if the ICV part numbers differ between the 02/09-06/12 ICVs and the 6/12-6/13 ICVs? We see a change after 01/09, but does it change again in 6/12? Trying to narrow down why only that one year spectrum has the 10/120k warranty.
