Got a Tesla. What to do with M3?

So I just got the performance version of the Tesla Model 3 (which ironically is called "M3"). The car is incredible. With instant torque, the car is like a rocket. I have the dual motor version and it has I think 450 hp equivalent.

Driving my E93 M3 feels clunky now. I feel like I have to wait for the car to warm up, shift the into gear, wait for RPM to pick up before shifting and so on. Don't get me wrong my E93 is fast, but compared to the Tesla instant torque, it feels sluggish. The electronics on the car is like using your iPhone, integrated very well.

Anyway, I'm trying to figure out what to do with my 2013 E93 M3.

1) keep it. BMW no longer makes naturally aspirated V8 engine. It will be a rare car in 15 to 20 years (as more people go into electric cars). There will always be a market for 'loud and gas guzzling" cars even in the sea of electrified cars.

2) Sell it now. The days of gas driven cars are coming to a close. Get your $35k back now while the car has some value (less than 30k mile, premium package). In 10 years it will be worth $10k.

I know it will be a while before gasoline engines are gone (maybe even never), but will people appreciate large inefficient engines in the future? People don't look back and say, "geez, I miss the days of doing all that math with a slide rule. it kept your brain sharp" or, "gosh, it was so refreshing to hear the horse pull you and feeling the wind on the carriage." People moved on.

Seriously though keep the M car as a change up on days when u miss the sounds of an air and gas fed engine and exhaust.

If the sound and feel of that magical NA V8 doesn't truly pull at your heart and soul then go ahead sell the M3 now.

Keep M3. There will be days when you aren't gonna wanna charge your R/C car. Elon is keeping tabs on you because you're essentially tethered in a Tesla.

I drove i3 a few times and the insta torque is awesome. Can only imagine what your TM3 is like. Congrats.

That would make sense to sell it if you can get that kind of money. Barely see 30k mile manual E92's getting $35k. Can't blame you on the Tesla, beautiful vehicle.

if you don't plan to drive m3 much i'd sell it. The e93 will continue to depreciate until the low teens and stay there. It will never appreciate.

If you are happy with the Tesla, sell the M3. I’d take an Model S with 100 battery.

I wouldn't sell it but then again I never would have bought an electric car. Call me old school but they have no character and to be honest are simply downright ugly. The lack of exhaust sound would drive me crazy.

I know 2 people that spend 100k on Tesla's only to take 50 percent depreciation in one year on one trade it and one that still can't get rid of their tying to sell it privately. They actually both praised tesla in their honeymoon stage but be careful what you signed up for. Buying a tesla is easy try selling one.

I've seen a lot of these Teslas on the road. I cannot get over how goofy they look. They should've at least done something for the performance model's look.

I appreciate Teslas. If that's where your heart is, that's okay.

If you don't see the point in the M3 anymore and it's taking up space and you don't see yourself driving it much again, then you might as well take the cash for it. Someone out there will enjoy it.

If you have the means and you still want to keep the M3 as a weekend car because of the tactile and audible thrill it can provide, different than an electric, then keep it for now.

Follow your gut.

I'd say keep it because you don't know the future of Tesla is... I mean does anyone really keep track of Tesla and other electric car news? I might be wrong, but once other automakers bring their quality and expertise into the premium electric car game then Tesla will become a niche player at best.

Sell the m3. It's pretty clear how you feel and what you value in a car

My wife has had her Model S for 3 years now and while it is a great car in its own way, it is nowhere near as fun as my M3. Sure, it would win most drag races, but driving it is so uneventful otherwise. Frankly I insist on taking my car any time we drive together. She does love never having to go to a gas station.

I do see long term potential value in the e9x cars. Im no expert but my guess is that the e93 would be on the lower end of that spectrum. It's also anyone's guess how long it will take to see any kind of ROI. I also wouldn't expect these cars to see the kind of jump that air-cool Pcars did either. If you can afford to store it and won't miss the cash, why not. Otherwise, think of the 8% annual returns you could get out of the stock market in the many years your car is just sitting.

I don't think anyone can accurately predict the value of E9X M3's given there are so many variables at play. E46 M3's (in good to great condition) seem to have appreciated again somewhat, so it's possible that the value could go up, but that could be a temporary bump as well. I kinda feel like the demographics of younger potential car owners are changing - i.e. less interest in owning and driving a car, especially with the advent of Uber/Lyft and with self-driven cars on the horizon.

I dunno...if you enjoy the switch to the M3 and are willing to maintain it (and can afford to) then it's worth it for the fun. If it's less fun to you to drive the M3, then sell it. As amazing as the M3 is, there will be other cars down the road that may pique your interest.
