I feel like they can really last if taken good care of.

If your car has over 150k with rod bearings done, and a good maintenance history. The way you drive your car is probably fine, and the engine shouldn’t fail you.
Regarding lease cars, yea I can see that being likely.
But as for the other points, no, sorry you're wrong, read through the list I posted to the blown engines registry thread, which is a cleaned up, updated & sorted list from the op.
I went through every single link in the op, the vast majority were serviced regularly, not tuned & not tracked. As for improper RB installation, if you mean aftermarket, then that's a rarity (a few maybe), the vast majority were OEM bearings fitted by the factory.
Btw, yes some people will sugar coat the truth about the treatment of their car, but surely you're not going to claim that of ~100 blown engines in the 1st 3 lists (plus many more in the last list of 62 people) are all or nearly all BSing?? Also a very large portion of those engines were replaced under warrantee, which they wouldn't have got if they hadn't serviced it properly.
Being tracked or not seems to make little difference to the odds of RB failure btw.
Anyway, I don't want to take this thread off topic again, so if you want to reply to me, do it in the above linked thread.
But the short of it is, no, looking after your car won't even strongly assure you that you'll avoid the RB problem (unless their changed), the info showing this has been around for a while now. As I said it's down to the luck of the draw, likely down to tolerance stacking, or lack of it in your case, you have a good engine.

Of the high milers in here, who's running Redline Oil?
I just hit 132k on my 08. I drive it every day. It had about 76,000 on it when I got it. Other than that 18 quarts of oil nightmare 2 years ago - I have replaced the belts & pulleys, the starter, intake temp sensor, battery, and one shock. I had the code come up for one throttle acuator about 6 months ago. But it went away on it's own after 2 days and hasn't came back on yet.
I have not replaced rod bearings. I dont know if the previous owner did them but every oil analysis report has been good. and it runs great. So maybe they did do them? ..or maybe I've just been lucky so far.

About to hit 111k in my 2008. Feels fantastic, but I did just start getting the "cowbell" noise from the driveshaft when I switch from reverse to 1st and vice versa.
I think my CSB is likely original and that could be the source. Waffling between replacing it or just pulling the trigger on a 1-piece CF driveshaft (been eyeing that upgrade for a while) and eliminating it altogether.
Other than that, no noises other than the billion "normal" noises these cars make, haha.

Never fixed my cowbell noise. It got worse for a while, but now it seems to have gotten a lot quieter...
Plan A is still to go CF at some point, maybe when the CSB or something else starts going.

2008 6MT with 85k miles. Aside from an ABS module the only maintenance on this car has been the standard interval consumables any car would have + VC gaskets. There's a slight oil pan gasket weap, but my garage floor remains dry so I'll allow it.
If you had day 1 brand new seats in this you'd think the car was a one year old trade in. The car is that crisp. While the bamboo seats are in great shape for their age (leatherique works, don't @ me with that coated leather bullshit on a 13 year old car; the coating has worn off homie). They have been sat in for 13 years and don't have that brand new tightness that they likely had off the assembly line.
You read those 2 ^ paragraphs and think to yourself, well that guy has just unnecessarily babied the car since new. No. I'm the 3rd owner. The second owner was in his late 20's. I'm in my early 30's, fwiw. I hesitate to label this car "reliable", but I'll do it anyway. This was never a previous owner's daily driver, which means those miles are a combination of cruising to dinner with the Mrs and then ringing its neck out just because. How many other cars can you consistently keep in the upper 1/3rd of its rpm range for 13 years and only have this kind of service history?
NO rb. NO ta. NO fuel tank breather. NO...any of the things that get talked about on this forum so often that they end up scaring owners into rebuilding their entire M for "peace of mind".
Warm the car up, drive it easy for the first mile or two to let the drivetrain fluids also come up to temp (I think this is often ignored). Don't lug the engine. Give it the best possible fuel. Keep it parked inside so the sun doesn't do what the sun does so well, and keep on top of regular maintenance. The 6 commandments of E9x M ownership.

I just picked up a new to me 2008 with 173k miles! One owner, manual, slicktop...but the rod bearings were original. Brought it to the shop to get RB's done IMMEDIATELY, lol! I'm going to post a build thread soon. Surprisingly, the RB's weren't THAT bad. Original owner had oil changes ever 3k miles.
Hey all been a silent reader for years now, And wanted to contribute. Not an 08 but I have a 2010 e90 with 185K Km as we speak.
Almost 4 years of ownership, second owner of the car.
Coming from a 2010 135, which I regret selling but I love my M3 that my wife is jealous of it 😂.
Car history:
Previous owner was a very cations and preventative owner did maintenance on time and changed most front end suspension wear and tear parts. Stupid enough of me I threw away all those documents.
Since owning the car I did:
RB done at 130K KM. They were in a very good shape
Swapped a cracked expansion tank couple of months ago along with all the hoses connected to the radiator
Oil service intervals done every 10K km or less
My car is at the shop now for:
Diff oil
Diff bushings
Dct oil, new filters, and pan
Engine oil and filter
Coolant
Valve covers
New oil Cap
Oil filter gasket
Engine mount
TB cleaning.
AC and engine belts
New radiator
Dunno what to do next, as I'm looking to keep it forever maybe. Since it isn't my DD.
No mods other than TP and BMC drop ins. Currently awaiting Alex@alpine cable for a GTS DCT tune.
Looking forward to hear your opinions
