Hi Folks,

Car showing lost cylinder codes below. When I parked up the car went into limp mode and the engine was shuddering badly.
The car runs lumpy when accelerating hard under 2.5k revs. Both before and after this issue.
There is a new engine in this car which was replaced by bmw post rod bearing issue. Only 3k miles on it.

Any ideas?

check compression of the motor, if you have compression across all cylinders this is a component failure.
Congrats to a new engine! Surely must come with some sort of warranty?
I’d check around the engine harness since it’s all one bank that’s misfiring. I believe it’s the passenger side of the engine if you’re RHD in Ireland.
There are a ton of reasons for these codes and I've gotten them when I've had both a failing TBA and had a leak at the header to mid pipe connection.

Both times the issue would resolve with an on-off cycle. Out of balance / rough running and 5k RPM limit, etc

On-off clears the codes but It's running lumpy below 2.5k revs all the time.

could be fuel evap / breather valve.

what's the age / total mileage of the car and was the engine remanufactured or rebuilt?

002B3C is DMTL tank leakage.
002796 is secondary air pump no activity detected. It is also throttle adaptation value is incorrect.
Do you know if they are original throttle actuators?

Did you or the dealer just put gas in it?
fuel tank breather valve.

Car is 2008. Car had 95k miles before the new reman engine went in. New engine has about 3k on it.
Throttle actuators were done on the old engine so I presume they were transfered across onto the reman but can't be sure.

The lumpy running under 2.5k is always there. I dont think it is linked to putting gas in. The car also idles smooth.
Throttle actuators were replaced on the old engine. I'm assuming they were transfered onto the new engine.

Pretty sure 2B3C is cyl 8 misfire for the MSS60 DME
Also think not sure 2796H/10134 is about throttle actuation or maybe something you get along with limp mode

You are correct, 002B3C is pulling up both DMTL, system fault and Misfire with cutoff, cyl 8. Only reason I listed the DMTL error is that it was another thing to consider in troubleshooting since he already had misfires on the rest of that bank.

There wasn't an H available on 002796
002796 is showing up as P1411, DME: Secondary-air pump relay, activation and P1634 DME: Throttle adaptation values incorrect.
Check your grounds.
Doesn’t your bmw reman have a 2 year warranty on it? Take it back to the dealer and have them fix it. Saves all this running around.

I think that could be it but there is some confusion.

Here's how I read it:
2796H just means hexadecimal 2796
/10134 is just the decimal conversion of 2796

So search for 2796 as a BMW hex code - https://bmwfault.codes/ shows the definition for 9 different DMEs

For most DMEs the code is about throttle activation, for one it is about the secondary air pump. None are about DTML. The caveat is that there is no listing specifically for the MSS60 DME.

But Mike Benvo reported it as "2796 Motor emergency programm activated" for the S65 motor. I don't know where he got that information but
he is knowledgeable. And this makes the most sense to me, given misfires on 4 cylinders
I pulled the trouble codes directly out of ista for this model year m3, for whatever that is worth take it or leave it.

That's interesting. I found different interpretations in my installation of ISTA, the same as I found on BMWfault.codes:

Plugs are new. Dealer re flashed. No codes but issue persists.
Their out of ideas.
I just got 2B3C and 2B3B, replaced the ignition coils and now it runs perfect again.

But I didn't get the 2796-code, and since you lost cyl all in the same cylinder bank it shouldn't be the ignition coils.
i have a 2b3a code on my 335is but it is saying it’s the dmtl pump. Why does yours say 2b3a cylinder cutoff?
