I would not want to tell to this Forum what I eard. I was at Motorsport factory for a visit. There will be no CSL model for the M3 e92. It is not in their plans at the moment. True or false? I am sure it is true, since the person who told me is very very inside the production process.
Anyway it is a pitty. And the reason is: the limits about weight saving and increasing of performance of the standard M3, are too low and don't allow too many improvments according to an acceptable cost of this operation.
I beleive that man. I only want to report what I eard.:mad0259:
I am not joking..Happend few days ago.

What did you hear? :D ;)

Seriously, I heard the same. No CSL for E9x M3.

Very bad news. Then BMW needs to build a mid engine supercar or stay out of the supercar game which would be a crying shame.

The CSL was a lot of things but it was no supercar and if I remember correctly BMW lost a lot of money on each one sold.....

I wasn't implying that the CSL was a supercar but it is a supercar in my mind. The R8 isn't losing money nor is the F430.
Honestly, there are (as with everything) ups and downs

Ups: We have the best e9x M3 out there
As an everyday car, the csl sucks; no air conditioning, cardboard trunk, etc., making it a waste of money. And i doubt it would make it to the us.

Downs: No insane csl body kits (like the e46)
The best M3 is the only
I'm actually sad to hear this news. :(

But until I hear official news I can still hope. You never know these days. BMW also said they would not go FI and well you know what happened there.

If your saying BMW should develop an independent supercar in the vein of the Audi R8 then I say, cool....

It's amazing what people will believe on the internet and car forums...

BMW confirms permanence of M3 CSL model

Posted Jul 24th 2007 9:02AM by Chris Shunk

Cars and NFL. Both offensive lineman and vehicles have been changing in parallel for a long time, getting bigger, stronger, and heavier. Even though the next-generation M3 grew larger and more powerful, the folks from Bavaria managed to cut weight by 7-percent versus the previous generation model. In an Inside Line interview with Gerhard Richter, vice president, BMW M Gmbh, yet another iteration of the still lighter CSL is a dead-lock guarantee. It seems BMW has figured out that people will pay more for increased agility that doesn't necessarily include monster horsepower. Now that we know the M3 CSL will always have a place in the Bimmer lineup, the only question left is when, what kind of diet we're talking about, and how much it's going to cost. We'd be happy with a run of the mill M3 until those answers become available.
BMW M Vice President: "From Now On, There Will Always Be An M3 CSL"

Gerhard Richter, BMW M Division’s Vive President gave a very interesting interview to Inside Line's Alistair Weaver during the launch of the 2008 BMW M3. Among other things, Richter confirmed BMW’s intention to build a successor to the highly acclaimed, lightweight M3 CSL. “The last M3 CSL was very successful and fun to drive. From now on, there will always be a CSL version of the M3”, said Richter.

As for the M1, Richter found the idea of an M model based on the 1-Series Coupe to be a good idea but he noted that BMW hasn’t taken any decision on the matter yet. On the other hand, Richter was quite negative about a future BMW supercar, not that he personally wouldn’t love doing it, but because if BMW decided to go fourth they would have to build something like the Porsche Carrera GT since anything below would just be on the same level with the M3 or M6. -Click on the link below to see the whole interview
More of Richter's statements...
even if they were planning one, why would they announce it? that would just hurt current model sales...
Will there be a new version of the lightweight M3 CSL?
We built the last M3 CSL to test how many euros customers are willing to pay for less weight. For 20 years, they've learnt to pay for more power, not less weight. The reaction to the CSL was very positive and you will already see in the new M3 that we've spent a lot of money bringing down the weight.

Will there always be an M3 CSL from now on?
Yes, yes, yes. We are thinking about such a special version. Yes, of course. Because the last M3 CSL version was so successful and it's fun to drive. Maybe.

Keep in mind this from close to a year ago.... and Bush Senior said there would be no new taxes...
And for Ruff

Audi recently introduced the R8 to much acclaim. Will BMW build a supercar?
That's a very difficult question to answer. A car like the Porsche Carrera GT could reflect our character, but the Carrera GT was not a commercial success. Below this supercar level, anything we could offer would just be on a level with the M3 or M6.

We could build a car that used the technical aspects of the M3 or M6 but clothe it in a new body, but such a car would be more expensive and no more fun to drive. That is the reason why we're hesitant to build such a car, although as an engineer I'd love to do it.
BMW supercar = 335i

Just ask around. You will get many supporters. To some, it is the greatest creation by Zeus.
Building a CSL of the 1-series is more tempting. Lighter body than M3 E92, more compact size and 360 hp. That would be one heck of a drivers car.

Hi my friend:D

I think is not a so bad new...since in this way I will not loose my money, selling my beauty to buy the new CSL...:-)

Anyway, I feel also like an idiot and I have to find the correct words to tell that: my servotronic is fine. Do you remember my thread? We checked it in Munich....Nothing is going wrong with it. I am only, like you suggested in the past, more used to it and I don't feel anymore his job...And this is why I have to admit that I feel or probably I am, an IDIOT....:drink:
Not an idiot, just a passionate enthusiast who spent a TRUCKLOAD OF CASH on a car and thus are hypersensitive to any changes and made a simple mistake, that is all. Don't beat yourself up, and just have a :drink: because I probably would have thought the same thing had you not started that thread and came to the conclusion you did:)
It's easy to do, is profitable, will bring a lot of attention to the brand, boosts ego,.....it will be done.

The last CSL was neither easy to do nor profitable. What has changed since then?

Well, after reading though all these posts, I am happy there won't be a CLS as well. As for the performance package, you can pretty much upgrade some of these items yourselves, such as brakes, lighter wheels/tires, certain weight saving items around the car, exhaust, strut bars, a bit of cosmetics and a bit of engine management tweaking for a few more hp´s etc…
I think it would make more sense to do a 1 series CSL. The M3 is pretty heavy right now and that is with weight saving measures. Imagine a 1 series given the M treatment with CSL style and the S65 V8 in it. Don't worry about leather, nav, PDC, audio, power this and that, etc. Just focus on the essentials to make it road legal (I'll agree this a lot nowadays). But most of all make it fun.

Problem is it would also require major modification to so many areas, such as the suspension etc..., that it would prabably make it more expensive than a base line M3. Don't think that is in the works.
