Swapped to a set of Bridgestone s007a's (which was described to me as in between the Pole Position and Re-71r) mainly because I got a pretty good deal from Tire Rack. $700 for a set vs $1200ish for PS4S.

Figured I'd give them a try.

So far they're very comparable to the PS4S tires I was running before (in the wet at least).

Looking forward to dry weather to really put them through some windy roads.

Ignore the messy garage (moving in)
Looking good. Which CSL trunk? How's the fitment?

Get a low oil alert
Even after adding the leftover bottle, car still says +1 qt
All the auto parts stores are closed for the evening
I need to drive to work in the morning

What's my best option? I live in West LA

Drive my wife's car and go to a market tonight and see if they carry any generic engine oil?

Drive my wife's car tonight to a Walmart (far drive) and get some oil there?

Go to the dealership in the morning? Gotta check if they open that early... Plus i would need to drive my m3 as I won't have my wife's car available then
I had a similar issue after my first oil change after buying it. The oil level sensor needs some time to adjust. For me, I knew I put the exact right amount of oil in. None leaked out, none leaked all over the engine bay. After 2 days of inaccurate reading, the computer finally caught up and read the appropriate (full) oil level. Be careful adding too much and overfilling

Same here, first oil change said it was overfilled. I knew I didn't over fill it because I only had 9 bottles to begin with and filled as close to 8.8 as I could with a bit left in the last bottle of oil.

Few days of driving and it corrected itself. Though it did concern me being new to the car and not knowing it's unique quirks.

Like the perks of no dipstick for some damn reason

Just want to warn you that you can pop both bolts, but you will never get all the oil out of your engine, so even with 8+ bottles, there is a chance you overfilled.

Been a minute since I've checked in here. I've been crazy busy, thankfully. All good things.

But today I was finally able to get a proper stable for the ///M. No more subterranean garages. Oh, and the garage came with a house, too!

I'll turn this space into a car paradise eventually. Pressure washer setup and shop lighting will be first.
Nice garage!

What? The S65 has an 8.8L fill spec. Every oil change, I drain oil, replace filter and add 8.8L (9.3QT).

There is zero chance that 1L of oil is not going to come out of the engine when properly drained.

Yes, you are correct the S65 does have 8.8 liter oil capacity.

I am trying to nicely warn you that you could pop both bolts wait a week and you aren't going to get all 8.8 liters out.
Well, my latest modifications have been to install a carbon fiber front lip and new wheels. I have also polished the entire body

7 oil changes, each using 8.8L, I have never had an overfill.

7 most lucky oil changes in the history of the E9x M3 chassis.

All I am trying to do is warn you and this fella is it is an impossibility to get every drop of oil out of your engine without dropping the pan. I would estimate a 1/4th quart is always in the corner somewhere in the pan as its impossible to get it out with gravity and how the pan is built

But, since your pulling my chain, how did you know you didn't put in 8.79 liters? or maybe lower to 8.5 liters? Did you put your remaining amount in a measuring cup to make sure it was 0.2 liters?
Finally ordered some AA test pipes!

Also oil change with BMW oil. I too noticed it's getting up to temp quicker and engine seems a little more quiet at idle.

I did 8.5L then drive it about 20 miles. Oil level looks to be perfect so left the other 1/2L in the trunk. I only had two jack stands so the car wasn't fully level. I'm sure there is a little left in there from before the change.

I use an oil fill jug with measurements on it when using 5L jugs of oil. 5L + 3.8L.

When using Red Line, I put in 9 bottles. Plus 1/3 of a bottle.

There is a reason TIS calls for 8.8L.
spent some time yesterday giving her a wash. Got to be a masochist or heavily OCD owning a Jet Black car.

If we are going to argue semantics, 8.3 qts is the mark for the pan. How much is in the lines, filter housing, and oil cooler can vary, but 8-9 quarts should be safe.

Perhaps you are misunderstanding what I am having a discussion on. I am not disputing what should be in the engine.

I am saying that if you pop both oil bolts, wait 1-4 hours, reinstall and put in near 9 liters of oil, you are very likely going to have a bad day. Bad day = overfilled message on the dash.

If you have done 7 oil changes using this method, dude go play the lottery. Even with your method working 7 times I expect that that oil fill line is at the top every time?

I have seen enough threads with the topic about overfilling oil (heck the start of this discussion was that) to know that you start with 8 liters, then slowly work up from there. I have done 8 oil changes myself. I pop the first bolt, then pop the second and wait like 1-2 hours. Every time I fill 8 liters in then start her up and get her warm until the digital dipstick reads. With filling only 8 liters I have had the stick read min all the way to lucky as hell near filled meaning the oil didn't all come out.

If your system works, good on you my man, I am just trying to save someone a headache.
Every mech I've ever gone to will put in 8L of oil. Then run the engine until the electronic dipstick shows the reading then add oil slowly until it's one notch below the full mark. This is the safest way to do it.

Those are 4S tires, ya?

255/35 and 275/35?

10mm spacers?

Lowered?
Just a little polish on the tips. Last time, I got called out on it 😂😂😂.

You are over thinking things here.

Drop oil.

Change filter.

Add 8.8L (what the "book" says)

Drive.

Just like every other car out there.

No shop I know of would waste that amount of time.

There is a reason they publish a volume spec. No dealer is going to piss around with the e-dipstick by under filling and topping up. Too much time wasted for a flat rate mechanic.

The S65 is just a simple wet sump engine. Nothing different that an LS etc.

What you aren't grasping is we are completely agreeing with your published volume spec. 100%. 8.8 is what are ol' S65 needs to breathe we are with you there.

I am not overthinking anything as your other post to me stated. What we are trying to tell you and warn people you are giving in my opinion bad advice to is add 8 and work up from there. Blindly adding 8.8 liters is very bad advice.

Doesn't matter if it is an E92 M3 or a Honda Civic, popping the oil bolt doesn't get all the oil out of a pan unless you drop the pan.

I am not trying to have an argument with you, I am just trying to save the next guy. If it is someone reading this today or months from now or years from now trying to make sure they don't overfill and save them a headache.
