This PS failure talk makes me wonder… How many people are actually flushing their PS fluid every season? And I don’t mean sucking out the reservoir and refilling, because that does almost nothing.
To be fair (and will edit my post now). My Power steering system has 167k miles on it, but flushing the system is definitely important. After seeing the amount of sludge that came out on my magnet I would always recommend running a filter with the BW setup. The OEM reservoir has a filter in it.

Move Over's user avatarMove Over very cool, always love new kit for our cars and even better when it's more cost effective than other options and tested on track by one of our own! Awesome on the diff too. I was going to mention that I had a PS pump failure, replaced under warranty, turned into a total PS system failure, rack and pump replaced under warranty, installed do88 cooler then and realized still an incredible amount of metal particles in my fluid, dealer flushed 3 times with fresh fluid, still particles, I flushed twice myself, still particles. Just flushing as part of my normal maintenance now. I am running the Bimmerworld reservoir which does not have a filter, OE does. I guess my point here is that I think the rack inherently produces metal particles as part of it's design and is probably why the OE reservoir included a filter. Long winded way of saying it may not be a bad idea to incorporate a filter into your design.
Once I get the pump (should be today), I will take it apart to see if it has a filter in its reservoir, if not I will be incorporating an in-line filter on the return side of the pump. I was very surprised at the amount of sludge/shavings in my reservoir as well, I had three loads of it via my magnet. This was the 4th time I stuck the magnet in the res, as you can imagine the first was loaded.

Thanks Devin, yes I want to mention that I am not an innovator of this idea, JPmotorsports and MS24 have existing kits (no AC), as well as OG Shark Motorsports has a kit in development for both non AC and AC - I need to edit my post as I do not mean to come off as an innovator of it.
Pretty sure everyone knows that you are not the innovator of it - definitely not a novel idea by any means. Any of us who have or are developing a kit like this are just trying to improve on fit, costs, ease of install, etc. while being readily available.

Just would like for you to make it clear to everyone that part of your "research" is asking people that you know are also making a kit all about their product while portraying that you are interested in purchasing one when it is available. I have no gripe (and have no right to) with you putting together a kit - want to make that perfectly clear. I do however take major issue with how you did your "research". I have always answered your many questions on this platform - and this case was no different. I have no issues doing so as I believe in helping in the same fashion that many on here have helped me. But to source info from me like you did - and then to represent in your post like that on top of it - that's poor form.

I truly hope your kit comes out awesome, really do. But really not cool how you did your research.
OG Shark's user avatarOG Shark when are you expecting to release your kit? This is something I am very interested in doing this off season

How did you get those to fit without rubbing on the rotor hat? I have PFC 83s in the same shape for the ST60 that don't even make a good door stop.

I liked the PFC 08s on stock brakes, but a more sprint oriented pad would be better. I like the XP20 (fits perfectly) and it's a great value compared to the other vendors.

Also if it's knock back, there are anti-knock back springs or pumping the brake slightly before a braking zone.
The AKB springs on Stoptechs have reported to still have knockback issues from the folks I talked to. It minimized it to be less, but still had issues with 6lb springs.

It's funny that all the years I watched Best Motoring when I was in my teens, I didn't know why they tapped the brakes with their left foot before the braking zone. I only to found out when I learned about knockback, they were just working around the issue.

With that in mind, I decided to ditch the Stoptech and go AP racing. Now the wheel doesn't spin freely when jacked up haha.

It worked WAAAAY better than just emptying the reservoir and refilling.

Thanks, Jason for the reply I appreciate any criticism or guidance where I've wronged someone, only will help me become better. While I agree with you, I've apologized on FB, and have edited my post to reflect that the research was from you. In retrospect, I should have given you more credit in my post, and I think I've reflected that in my edited post. I'm not sure what more you want from me.

I would like to make it clear that I was absolutely a buyer of your kit I found out you mentioned you offering one, but my timeline does not match up waiting for the release of yours. Rather than installing new/used OEM stuff, remove it, then install your kit when it was ready, I took it upon myself to come up with my own parts, and a supplier who can help with the brackets.

With all the most respect to your efforts and emerging MS business, but in the same manner you're suggesting the "research" was disingenuous, it's disingenuous to suggest you're somehow damaged by the OP. Speaking with the existing solutions is how anyone would go about researching their approach. It's been made public that was the case.

You yourself mention these aren't new, and your build thread notes M24's solution installed on your car. It's fair to assume their solution undoubtedly impacted your research, right? Granted you did buy their kit which is absolutely of note!

I have no skin in the game, other than I'd like a solution for the off-season which is how Alex and I got connected. If the commercial options available have a huge market up on the well established individual components then I'll fabricate my own bracket. This isn't proprietary or rocket science.

We all gain from the collective experience here! Let's keep the secret sauce to suspension setup, ride heights, bump stops, etc. Because we're all pros :drink:

It makes me feel like I didn't waste my time when I added an inline filter for my Moroso (BW) reservoir.

I was just concerned that the BMW engineers went to all the trouble to add a filter to the OEM system so it felt creepy to not have one.

Here's the filter I used and the where I put it.
The filter body is extremely tough.

Smart man, I had the BW reservoir for a short period of time as well, and it still overflowed a bit on track, then groaned when it was too low. Maybe that was my ultimate demise of the PS system, as I ran it for a bit with no filter. Maybe it contaminated my fluid with no filter and cooked the pump :confused2:

I did not have any intention for my post to come across that I was damaged in any way from this. And rereading my post I do not believe it came across that way. I'm not & do not claim to be. Like you said none of this is innovative and certainly not rocket science. This is not a new concept by any means - its been done for a long time and by different people and yes we have run an M24 kit for three years on my race car. That is common knowledge - I have been public about that from the get go. There was quite a bit that we had to do though to make that kit work - and that is what we are chasing. A complete, turnkey kit that is plug & play. But I will certainly be the first to step up and say the concept is far from original to us.

But I think you can agree you would be upset if someone that you have helped quite a bit in the past asks you all about something they know you are working on only to turn around very soon afterwards and post that they have the same thing in development citing the "research" they have done. Just pissed me off seeing that, nothing more, nothing less.

It's cheap enough to do maybe once a year. The OE equivalent is what 25 bucks? I'd do it every year if sticking with this. But who knows, you may never have issues like some folks

Thanks Jason - hopefully, my edit has made the situation a bit less of an issue and provides a better timeline/citing/credit/whatever we want to callit of my research lol - and I totally understand why it was an issue. My intent was not to take any credit for research that you or others have done. I wholeheartedly had the intent to purchase your kit when available (heck and I still might if I can't get a bracket and wiring situated), but I can see your point how it looked like I was phishing for the info to put into my own kit.

Sorry for the weird non answer.
I linked my filter installation below, and it looks like after I had installed the reservoir, I put about 10,000 miles on the fluid without the filter.

Looks like I didn't like the color of the fluid after those filterless 10,000 miles either.

I'm probably at around 5000 miles since the filter installation, and the fluid still appears as new, greener than green and translucent.
