Also there was this clicking noise happening in front suspension when in rough streets or turning wheel stopped.

Found out that the passenger side shock absorber swivel bearing support was making contact with the shock absorber body due to an undesired rotation during torque procedure, I guess.

the picture below was taken after correction was made.

did a run after that, and noise was gone.

Threw the summer wheels on, the Michelins are noticeably more quiet than my Conti DWS tires. Then a work trip to Portland and back. Traffic was a nightmare all day and lane closures on I5 north at Seattle added almost an hour and a half on my return leg. The Mr12volt CarPlay unit made the traffic tolerable and the rare times I got to give her the ol Italian tuneup reminded me how much I love miles in this car.

Yeah I was noticing my cabin noise rising uncomfortably high in the last 1-2 months of driving on my conti all seasons dws+. I’m thinking of using Alpina’s in the fall winter early spring since the all seasons left me stranded last season so the contis will go to another car. I don’t think I can do another year of daily driving on those. No cupping.

The older compound quickly got pretty noisy as they aged, the plus to a lesser extent but perhaps that’s because of the sound deadening in BMW vs Subaru. I would not run them year round on a daily driven rear wheel drive vehicle. But I have been able to pull off some insane drives with them on the STI, we’re talking blizzard conditions from Vancouver to Seattle etc.

I’m on a fresh set of DWS+ on the Subie. At this point the DWS+ are still as pliable at two years as new, but the Michelin tread pattern is just flat out more quiet at highway speeds at the same age.
She makes a fine transport for wetlock boxes. 50lbs of Alaska’s finest! Also, I think I’m finally done messing with ride height and offsets. I like the GTS settings with my KW clubsports and a +22 (+5mm spacer) up front to clear the perches, +12 out back to fill the arches. I can live with the very slight rub up front.

I think I’ve located the first break in the carbon roof on my e92. I went to seal/wax it today and found what looks like a dot of gorilla glue, but it squishes to the touch like a bubble.

https://imgur.com/a/y4CBzsO

I’ve tried to protect the carbon religiously with washes and waxes since it’s a 365 day outside car in the South, but it seems I’m losing the battle. It’s definitely got the yellowing which I don’t mind, but I do need the roof to stay intact.

This might be a candidate for a razor blade and a dot of clear coat to seal.

I’ve ordered a cover craft car cover, but they seem to be asleep at the wheel, TBD on the order.
Drove it a little after installing NRW valve covers, Slon VANOS covers, spark plugs, fresh oil and a quick tire rotation (square setup for the win). Holds boost up to 10PSI no worries. Love that little boost tester.

This car makes me happy. The G1 is still pretty fun. Only knock against it is partial throttle when the DV is hunting around a little. But, just give it more willie and all is right in the world.

:)

if you didn't yet, take a look at what I did in mine.

Ah, this is a fantastic write up! Thanks for documenting this, it makes me feel a lot better than looking at new roof options haha.
you might want to look again, because I just realised I never posted a return after job done, and I did so right now.
Washed her in the evening the night prior and went for a morning drive and coffee! Never fails to put a smile on my face

Installed Core4 Motorsports 14mm hubs with press in studs and their “flugs.” New wheel bearings in the back too. All part of my 100k mile maintenance “upgrade” process. Kept the oem hubs, which appear to be in good shape (bearings in front have no noticeable play or noise at 100k miles)

The flugs get torqued to 125 ft lbs!

I am debating on getting DWS006 or PS AS4 for my M3. I live in downtown Denver and don't need to drive when it gets snowy out. I have always run DWS006 on my last few cars but I never owned any of the cars longer than two years so I never ran into any noise issues.

I owned both of those tires, the Conti on my 335xi and the Michelins on my M3. I am not a fan of either; contis are on par on wet, slightly noisier.

The all seasons are no seasons in my opinion. I also tracked the M3 on the Michelin AS/4 and it was ok-ish... taking it easy.

I still use the DWS on my 335xi as it does not see track and it's ok for an AWD in wet/light snow... does not excel at anything.

I since moved to a summer and winter tire on the M3 , Michelin PS4S and Michelin Pilot Alpin 4 .... Night and day.

The Michelin AS/4 will not move me out of the iced snow in the driveway. It will just slip and go sideways... the Pilot Alpin 4 is like on rails compared to them.
But you don't need to drive it in Snow, and if you don't track it, my preference is towards the Michelin AS4 if I was to choose..

Cheers

I have a very similar situation. My 335 has DWS, they are almost new and are very noisy, no complaints on performance but I drive that car like a grandpa. Have my second set of AS4 on my m3 and I think they are great. I got 40k miles on my last set! I have a separate set of wheels for autox. I’ve probably been 7-8 10ths on the AS4 and they’ve been great, also quiet.

I can’t speak to the all season performance in snow etc but both do a great job in wet conditions, I feel very confident with both.
Got my summer setup sorted out. Fikse Profil 10 refinished in satin gold paired with RE71RS. Happy how the finish and fitment turned out. Matches well with the nickel-plated trophy kit, imo.

Have also had both tires on m3’s. My climate is rainy 8-9 months of the year, occ snow. Loved the conti dws+ (different from dws) for about 6 months but they became very loud. I thought they rode similarly to the conti ecs in my typical driving and car trips. They were solid in rain and so so in snow, stranding me during a storm with fresh powder but later navigating packed snow uphill comically well.

I ran the michelin as4s in my supercharged e93 over a year. They were good enough to put down a timed 0-60. @ 4.0 seconds repeatedly and they hooked up with the Harrop traction surprisingly well. Good enough in rain and got me to work and home through a couple surprise snow storms.

The conti is a great value but the as4 probably the better all season.

Will probably move to the as4s for the wet season or the Alpin’s as others suggest, and move to something stickier and wider in the rear for the summer.

Pictured is my e90 having conquered Prune Hill in the dws+ on packed snow with a lot of uphill to get there, passing other vehicles that should have been significantly more capable on the snow to get there.

6:12 AM timestamp on that coffee...wow you're quite the early riser! Do you pick up the coffee at the end of your drive? I've found the cupholders in the E92 are very conducive to spillage when I drive it how I like to drive it:burnrubbe
You know the drill, 9L of the sauce. Gonna try out FCP Euros return policy. Filter looked great, replaced drain plugs too. Tomorrow is all new wheel studs. Ran out of time for the M since the Subaru needed wash and wax in a baaaad way.

Posted in another thread but just got her back from Performance Eurowerks near Chicago. Rod bearings and motor mounts swapped at 70K miles. Peace of mind in a car I plan on keeping forever (I'm the original owner).

Installed clear headlight protection film. Simple install, just wish it would have been done when car was new.
