Yes, that would be my guess as well. Probably some type of hardware to decode the mic signal better and may require some software changes to handle that.

Anyone in La/OC area down to help with the rear camera install? I would greatly appreciate it. Dinner or lunch on me.

Has anyone installed this on the e70 x5? Seems like ironically all searches led me back here like some others. M3 owner as well but other sub forums don’t have that much depth in topics. Also if anyone has a recommended high definition reverse camera suggestion?

I am new to this forum and I am hoping I can receive some input and help.

My car is a 2008 model. It is retrofited to the CIC model along with the control knob. I ordered the correct Mr.12volt for the CIC head unit. I installed it (pretty simple plug and play) and coded it in through BimmerCode. It still will not show up under the CD/DVD menu as all it is showing is “unchecked”. I have been told there is additional coding that needs to be done since I have a CIC system in a car that was originally equipped with CCC. Does anyone have experience with this?

Watching the video confirms what I thought- there's no more harness going to the idrive controller itself due to it getting canbus and power from the quadlock adapter now.

This means if you upgrade you are going to need to go remove that cable.

Regarding the mic splitter install in that video. That honestly isnt the cleanest way to do it.

If you watch the bimmertech install video for their carplay system, they show a much better method of running the mic splitter cable. It takes longer, but its a much cleaner install. Absolutely no reason you couldn't mimic that procedure here. In fact, I did that with the mr12volt mic.

If you have a previous version of the P2000, it has a cable that connects to the idrive controller, and goes back to the P2000. This is used for canbus and power connection.

In this new version, canbus and power comes from the quadlock adapter, which the older versions of the P2000 did not have. So if you are upgrading from an older version of the P2000, you are going to need to remove this cable.

Here is the video in question. You only need to pay attention to the part about running the mic splitter cable. The way they tackled it is to remove the A pillar trim, and put the cable behind the airbag. It also shows a good routing method for getting it back into the dash. This is the method I used.

EDIT: IT WORKS REALLY GOOD! I connected it to the wrong port (aux on mr12volt, not on quadlock) at first, so that is why the mic was terrible:

Can you clarify how you connected the mic splitter? Did you plug it into the p2000 directly, or did you plug it into the into the 3.5mm port on the quadlock adapter? It's supposed to be plugged into the quadlock adapter, not directly into the unit. If you were plugged directly into the unit, that might explain it, as it is well established that the mic port on the box itself doesnt work with the mic splitter.

If you are connected to the quadlock adapter, I'd get in contact with mr12volt support on whatasapp.

That was indeed the problem, switched to quadlock adapter port and now IT WORKS.. I would say the call quality compared to OEM is about 90% for the person on the other hand… interesting thing is that I don’t hear the other person as loud and clear as on OEM(I would say it is at least 30% worse), but that has nothing to do with the microphone…

I’ve tried different calls and am switching real time between bluetooth - CIC and Carplay and difference is noticable, but at least others can now understand me perfectly fine 😊

Does anybody know what those 2 cables are for?

There is also a sound, like a “tick” from the Mr12Volt box everytime it switches between CIC system and itself, is that the same on older boxes?

Wild ass guess- would the plug be for the light on the kick panel? I think some e9x cars have a 12v power adapter on the kick panel too. Mine doesnt, but I'm pretty sure some do.

As for the question about the video, try hitting the CD button on the idrive controller. That should get you to the CD menu, and you can go back from there.

Oh, also that tick sound is a relay engaging. Totally normal.

I will be testing the unit a lot, so anybody just ask me a question about it and I’ll be glad to answer… Don’t have idea how to make video which can demonstrate the microphone and call quality sound to you.

So I will be installing rear camera now… I picked the wrong front camera, because the space between my grills is closer than 42mm camera that I’ve bought, a rookie mistake

Do I need to ground anything else? Also, the suggested brand GreenYi connectors(yellow) are big, so it is not possible to get it through OEM rubber which connecte the trunk A lot of different cameras have smaller connectors as I can see in videos…
