Installed the AutoSolutions Short Throw Shifter and UCP this week. Huge difference and feels like I can actually drive the car hard now without such a vague clutch and sloppy shifter feel.

Last year I drove 6 hours round trip to purchase pre-LCI seats from a forum member - they had fewer than 30k miles on the leather. They sat in my basement (much to my wife’s delight) for 8 months. I could have simply swapped the seats but I didn’t want to lose the functionality of the LCI active head restraints.

Finally got the cushions swapped out. My old cushions are obviously on the left, the new-to-me cushions installed into my lci seat frame on the right. Huge improvement in cushion feel and appearance for my driver seat and the newer leather is actually not a terrible match to my original passenger seat (not shown).

For the swap, I used the barely used pre-lci passenger seat bottom cushion and thigh bolster for my lci driver side frame, both of which look practically brand new. I had to use the slightly worn pre-lci driver side upper to retain side curtain airbag functionality.

This job was surprisingly a LOT of physical work but for road trips to come I will be all the more comfortable for the effort.

Went for a drive. Man what a blast. Haven’t taken it out for a few months since I started to daily the g80

Took a long drive and found out my center console gets uncomfortably hot to the touch. Even with jeans on I couldn't rest my leg against the console. It is much hotter on the driver's side but even the pass side is still unusually warm.

I think it is related to the rear climate controls when they are turned all the way to hot as the rear AC vents route through the transmission tunnel.

It only happens when the car is on for 30 or more minutes so I don't take a ton of long drives but I should know either way soon what is causing it.

Please let me know if you do get to the bottom of it, I’ve been under the assumption this is standard for all e9x generation cars. I have an e90 M3 and an e91, both get very hot in the same general area you’re noting.

Wow.. the end result is a major improvement. The seat in the photo looks like new. Well done wrenching on all those cover clips and spring things. I hear this type of seat recovering job is particularly tough on the hands/fingers.

You just need to adjust the rear seat climate dial to close the vent, and switch it off the hot bias. Mine always stays cool now.

Indeed. Now riding in the seat for a couple days, I really didn't appreciate how broken down the foam was in my 150k mile car. Advil was my friend and while I can still feel it in my hands, forearms and wrists this morning - the rest of my body says 'thank you'.

My encore was doing a bottom cushion swap for my wife's X5 yesterday because the passenger seat occupancy mat had faulted. I'm ready to be out of the auto upholstery business!

Well. Since I failed emmissions to register the vehicle, I had to get down and dirty with the car. So annoying trying to understand and determine what I need to do besides stock midsection.

Current mods are simply AFe Intake, ESD Forward x-pipe with HFC(lol), dinan exhaust.

I would have thought the ESS has good quality cats but pics appear to lack particulates.

Anyhow, it was nice go polish up the Dinan exhaust, new spark plugs, injectors, and cleaned AFe filter.

Just my two cents, but it looks to me like the Cat(s) are not working. The cells are way too clean in your photo below. Is it a real cat? Aren't functioning ones usually black from soot? I suppose that's your point about lack of particulates.

Are you taking upholstery refurbish orders for e9x? I would like new foamies in my driver seat as well.

You might be thinking of a DPF which can get soot build up when completely packed.
Usually a catalytic converter is not supposed to have any soot. These things actually glow red-hot when functioning correctly. Any soot or particulate would get "burned up" in hopes of converting carbon to CO2.

Here's a neat video showing some monolith in a glass tube being run in real time.

Okay, I sit corrected. The photo of the functioning cat I posted above is from a Mazda Miata and although it's not 'packed', the cells appear black or at least dark. Thanks for the video. I didn't know cats glowed when working. No wonder some people say their E9X transmission tunnel feels way too hot...

Interesting, i didn't think the rear controls do anything if the main unit for the front is off.

So this happened today to my E90 M3, rock in the road caught the oil pan and lost all oil in seconds, I stopped the car immediately knowing exactly that the oil pan got destroyed so maybe engine is not toast, ironically this was going to be its last drive in about a month, now definitely a couple of months or maybe never again.

Ouch.. must've been some rock. So sorry for your bad luck. Good job stopping the engine immediately. Let us know what you find when you get the pan off.
